BACKGROUND: Cutaneous calciphylaxis, seen most often in dialysis patients, is characterised by skin necrosis, and is a disabling and lifethreatening disease. Despite intensive topical treatment, recourse to parathyroidectomy is often necessary. We report the case of a female patient with skin necrosis due to calciphylaxis: pain and necrotic lesions were controlled by grafting of cultured autologous keratinocytes (Epibase).

A new cryosurgical device was developed in this study to facilitate examination of factors affecting the outcome of cryotreatment. Special emphasis was placed on the control of the cooling rate at the freezing front. A traumatic tattoo results from an abrasion in which dirt, carbon, tar, asphalt, or other particles have become embedded beneath the superficial layer of the dermis. It is not practical to treat diffuse areas of sun damage with liquid nitrogen. Patients with actinic keratoses require painstaking instruction and numerous visits to guide them through a course of 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) therapy. While basal cell carcinoma rarely metastasizes, its potential for localized destruction and its tendency to recur after therapy should not be underestimated. In certain locations, the tumor does not have a benign clinical course.

Small pieces of jejunum with an intact blood supply were explanted to the anterior abdominal wall in rats. Six weeks after explantation the mucosa appeared totally flat in many areas, both histologically and under the dissecting microscope. The structure of the flattened mucosa was shown to be identical to that in coeliac disease with hypertrophied intervillous ridges. A dynamic study with tritium-labelled thymidine demonstrated a considerably increased turnover in the flat mucosa with some disorganization of cell production and migration.

The objective of this study is to describe the surgical planning of the inferior dermoglandular pedicle (IDP) technique and its outcome following partial mastectomy reconstruction. A total of 26 patients with breast cancer underwent immediate IDP reconstruction. IDP was indicated to reconstruct superior/central breast defects.
