AIM: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a well-established procedure for treating various hip joint diseases. However, postoperative complications and negative outcomes can affect patient recovery and satisfaction. Conventional perioperative interventions have demonstrated limited effectiveness in addressing these challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a Six Sigma-based intervention model in patients undergoing THA, with a focus on improving postoperative outcomes, reducing complications, and enhancing patient satisfaction.
METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted at a

Age is frequently considered a major determinant of postoperative recovery after colorectal surgery and is often perceived as a limiting factor for an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS®) pathway. The integration of ERAS® with a robotic surgical approach (RERAS-concept) may be associated with synergistic effects especially for this group of patients. However, real-world-data evaluating age-related differences in postoperative recovery under RERAS conditions remain limited. This retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database included all elective robotic colorectal resections …

PURPOSE: To evaluate the bowel function recovery following ureteral reconstruction and identify the associated factors.
METHODS: We conducted a prospective study enrolling 98 patients undergoing transperitoneal laparoscopic or robotic-assisted ureteral reconstruction. The time to resumption of gas evacuation and defecation were used to evaluate the bowel function recovery. Student's t-test, Chi-squared test, Pearson's correlation, and linear regression were performed to identify independent factors. Nomograms were developed to predict early resumption of gas evacuation and defecation.

BACKGROUND: Despite increases in same-day discharge after mastectomy, there are few studies assessing its implications in the elderly. Our institution initiated enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS®) principles emphasizing outpatient mastectomy in 2017. This study assessed the effect of introducing outpatient mastectomy on outcomes in the elderly.
METHODS: A prospective database was retrospectively reviewed for patients ≥70 years old undergoing mastectomy with or without implant-based reconstruction from 2015 to 2023. Patients from 2015 to 2016 were pre-ERAS®, and 2017-2023 were post-ERAS®.

BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after cesarean delivery (ERAC) is an evidence-based pathway that aims to improve the quality of care for all patients. Standardization of care has been seen as a tool to promote equality and equity. Our goal was to evaluate racial differences in severe maternal morbidity (SMM) among patients before and after implementation of an ERAC program.
METHODS: A retrospective study was performed among cesarean delivery patients pre- and post-ERAC implementation at two large academic hospitals in New York City from October 2016 to September 2020. Logistic regression models

Patient satisfaction during hospitalization for esophagectomy has been little studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate patients' satisfaction with a newly introduced enhanced recovery protocol (ERP) for esophagectomy. At hospital discharge, patients were invited to complete a questionnaire. This pseudonymized questionnaire contained 5-point Likert scales regarding items on multidisciplinary care (n = 7), information/communication (n = 7), length of stay (n = 1), and specific adaptations of care in the ERP (n = 11). One open question asked for patient experiences and suggestions for impro

BACKGROUND: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective treatment for end-stage knee osteoarthritis; however, postoperative recovery is frequently hindered by inadequate pain control and delayed functional rehabilitation. Conventional perioperative management often focuses primarily on surgical technique and pharmacologic analgesia, while underemphasizing other modifiable factors such as patient education, nutritional status, and psychological well-being. To address these gaps, we developed a structured multimodal perioperative strategy-the 5E management protocol-integrating Education, Exerc
