Partial persistence of the hyaloid artery unaccompanied by hyperplastic primary vitreous has not been previously reported in association with retinoblastoma. A 60-year-old white man from an area endemic for Histoplasma capsulatum presented with a vitreous wick, hypopyon iritis, and dense vitreitis 2 months after removal of an anterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) for chronic iritis. BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of traditional amblyopia therapies is largely restricted to childhood. However, spontaneous recovery in adulthood is possible following vision loss in the fellow eye due to enucleation, injury, or disease. The twofold purpose of this study was (1) to define the incidence of recovery and (2) to elucidate the clinical features associated with greater amblyopic eye gains.

The etiology of subretinal mass lesions is very difficult to establish. A 28-year-old man presented to us with an area of choroiditis, which progressed, despite corticosteroid and antibiotic therapy, to an exudative retinal detachment, secondary glaucoma and a painful blind eye. To develop a means of identifying the cause of such lesions, we did a subretinal fluid tap prior to enucleation. Cytopathology showed only inflammatory cells and the final histopathological diagnosis was that of a granulomatous scleritis.

The left eye of a 71-year-old patient who had suffered from choroiditis guttata was removed immediately after death by enucleation. Histopathological studies revealed numerous nodular (hard) drusen, a wide variety of senile alterations of the pigment epithelium and Bruch's membrane, and the presence of multiple corpora arenacea in the subarachnoid space of the optic nerve. A new hypothesis concerning the development of hereditary drusen is advanced, postulating a disturbance of the lysosomal enzyme/inhibitor balance.

Total retinal detachment and neovascular glaucoma occurred after a penetrating injury to the left globe that left the eye blind and painful. A retrobulbar injection of alcohol and enucleation modified but did not relieve the orbital discomfort. At surgery, we discovered a neuroma with cartilaginous metaplasia involving the supratrochlear nerve. Excision of this mass produced relief of symptoms. This is, to our knowledge, the first reported case of a neuroma with cartilaginous metaplasia involving the supratrochlear nerve.

PURPOSE: To report globe salvage rates, patient survival and adverse events of ophthalmic artery chemosurgery (OAC) for International Classification of Retinoblastoma (ICRB) group D retinoblastoma (naive and after prior failures).
METHODS: Single institution retrospective review of all Group D eyes treated with OAC from 5/2006-12/2012. Patients were treated according to our previously-published techniques. The purpose of this paper is to describe a specific presentation of canine corneal calcification. Fourteen cases are described. In seven cases the corneal lesions were bilaterally symmetrical. In five cases the corneal lesion was unilateral. We report on a 19-year-old patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), accompanied by a Naevus flammeus, secondary glaucoma, and glaucomatous optic atrophy of the right eye. The painful and blind eye was enucleated. Histopathological analysis revealed a circumscribed choroidal hemangioma around the optic nerve and a smaller extrascleral hemangioma. Molecular genetic testing excluded GNA11, GNAQ, or GNAS mutations. Our work illuminates the clinical, histological, and molecular genetic aspects of this rare case, contributing to the differential diagnosis of ocular conditions in patients with SWS.
