Necrotizing Fasciitis Post-Cesarean Section Leading to Transabdominal Hysterectomy.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare but life-threatening disease characterized by rapidly spreading inflammation and subsequent necrosis of the fascial planes and surrounding tissues. Limited literature has described NF as involving an adjacent solid organ beyond fascial planes that has required its removal. We present a case of a 25-year-old white female who underwent a cesarean section and subsequently developed NF involving her uterus and abdominal wall that necessitated a total abdominal hysterectomy, serial surgical debridement of necrotic tissue, and wound vacuum assisted closure (VAC)

Monomicrobial Gram-Negative Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Lower Extremity.

Unlike other skin and soft tissue infections, necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition. It is usually caused by polymicrobial infections or monomicrobial gram-positive organisms, mainly Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Monomicrobial gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) NF is a rare form of NF, primarily reported in patients with underlying comorbidities or immunocompromised states. Here, we present a novel case of monomicrobial gram-negative NF caused by E. coli in an otherwise healthy patient. This case highlights that E. coli NF cannot be solely at

Retroperitoneal necrotizing fasciitis mimicking perforated appendicitis: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare and rapidly progressing soft tissue infection. The commonly involved body parts are the extremities and trunk. Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) involving the retroperitoneum is very uncommon but associated with higher morbidity and mortality. There are only a few patients survived according to the report. PRESENTATION OF CASE: This is a 19-year-old male patient presented with abdominal pain, high-grade fever, vomiting and abdominal distension for 3 days. On physical examination, he was hypotensive, tachycardic and febrile. He had a distended, tende

Emphysematous cystitis revealed by necrotizing fasciitis: An unusual presentation.

Emphysematous cystitis (EC) is a severe infection of the bladder that usually affects older women with diabetes mellitus. In rare situations, EC can lead to serious complications such as necrotizing fasciitis. We report the case of a 77-year-old woman who developed emphysematous cystitis complicated with rapidly progressive, gas-producing, necrotizing inflammation located on the right lower abdominal wall. The patient had aggressive drainage and debridement in order to control the extensive necrosis. To our knowledge, this is the third case report that describes a possible association between

MRSA Causing Necrotizing Fasciitis in 18-Month-Old Boy.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare and fulminant infection of the superficial fascia and subcutaneous cellular tissue. It is commonly polymicrobial, with the combination of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, which contributes to the rapid progression and severity of the disease. The microbes commonly involved include group A streptococcus, Enterobacteriaceae, anaerobes, and Staphylococcus aureus. Over the past few years, skin and soft tissue infections, including necrotizing fasciitis, due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus are increasing.

[Comprehensive treatment of 25 cases of acute necrotizing fasciitis].

From May 2013 to March 2020, 25 patients with acute necrotizing fasciitis were admitted to Beijing Chaoyang Emergency Rescue Center, including 18 males and 7 females, aged 7 to 78 years. The lesions were mainly located in the lower extremities, with the original lesion areas ranging from 20 cm×15 cm to 83 cm×42 cm. After admission, comprehensive systemic treatment was performed, the lesion area was cut open and drained as soon as possible, and the necrotic tissue was removed. Vacuum sealing drainage was performed when the necrotic tissue in the wound was reduced. The wounds were directly sutur

Cervicofacial necrotizing fasciitis after topical application of herbal medicine.

Cervical necrotizing fasciitis represents an aggressive form of deep neck space infection with a high mortality rate. The origin is generally odontogenic, in most cases, resulting from a dental abscess. A series of three cases developed after local application of herbal medicine in patients with no co-morbidities and with a history of a toothache in the lower quadrants for >2 weeks is presented. All patients were managed with antibiotics, extraction of offending tooth and serial wound debridement. Two patients recovered with a resultant skin defect on the neck and one died due to multiple orga

Cervical Necrotizing Fasciitis After Surgery of a Mandibular Fracture.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical necrotizing fasciitis (CNF) is a rapid progressing and potentially fatal infection of connective tissues that spreads along the fascial planes. It commonly develops from odontogenic sources. In this article, the authors present a case of CNF which was developed after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a mandibular fracture. CLINICAL CASE: A 19-year-old male patient with no past medical history was admitted due to a mandibular fracture. Following ORIF surgery, on third post-operative day, Physical examination revealed extensive cervical swelling extending fro

Necrotizing Fasciitis Following Routine Genitourinary Surgery in Healthy Infants.

Morbidity and mortality associated with pediatric necrotizing fasciitis are strongly dependent on early diagnosis and timely intervention. Yet, the lack of early cutaneous findings and nonspecific symptoms may result in initial delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis. Infants may be particularly at risk of missed or delayed diagnosis due to inherent barriers in communication and rarity of the condition, especially among healthy patients. We describe 2 cases of necrotizing fasciitis following routine genitourinary surgery in healthy infants.

Idiopathic necrotizing fasciitis following fracture fixation: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is an infrequent, highly lethal skin infection that spreads rapidly, marked by fascia and subcutaneous tissue necrosis. It occurs in the absence of a known causative factor. Its emergence after sterile orthopedic fixation with unexpected spread to the abdomen may turn to be challenging both as a medical and surgical emergency. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 56-year-old diabetic female presented with multiple fractures. After open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with iliac crest grafting of hip fracture, she developed incisional NF which later sp

Necrotizing Fasciitis Caused by Aeromonas hydrophila With Catastrophic Progression.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a severe deep soft tissue infection with poor disease prognosis. The Aeromonas species is characterized as gram-negative, facultative, anaerobic small bacilli that are ubiquitously distributed in aquatic environments. Necrotizing fasciitis caused by this species is rare but has an extremely high mortality rate, especially in immunocompromised individuals. This study presents the case of a 39-year-old man with alcoholic liver cirrhosis, Child-Pugh class B, with necrotizing fasciitis caused by Aeromonas hydrophila. Despite debridement and bilateral above-knee amputation

Clinical Features of Neutrophilic Dermatosis Variants Resembling Necrotizing Fasciitis.

IMPORTANCE: Pyoderma gangrenosum and necrotizing Sweet syndrome are diagnostically challenging variants of neutrophilic dermatosis that can clinically mimic the cutaneous and systemic features of necrotizing fasciitis. Improved characterization of these rare variants is needed, as improper diagnosis may lead to inappropriate or delayed treatment and the potential for morbidity. OBJECTIVE: To determine the characteristics of necrotizing neutrophilic dermatosis to improve diagnostic accuracy and distinguish from infection. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A case series of patients with necro

Necrotizing fasciitis after intramuscular self-injection A case report.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare, life-threatening soft tissue infection that affects the skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, and muscle, and is characterized by rapid spread and invasion of pathogens. Treatment is possible with early diagnosis, appropriate antibiotic therapy, and quick surgical intervention. Nevertheless, despite all interventions, it is sometimes difficult to manage NF. The Authors present the case of a patient with extensive NF caused by multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) that developed following an intramuscular injection of diclofenac sodium adm

Necrotizing fasciitis following measles vaccine administration: a case report.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in national immunization programmes is very rare; however, if they occur causality assessment is conducted to identify the associated cause. In the report, we describe a case of severe necrotizing fasciitis in the left arm of a 9-month old boy following administration of the measles vaccine. CASE PRESENTATION: A 9-month old boy presented with swelling on the left upper arm and adjoining the chest area, low-grade continuous fever, frequent passage of loose watery stool and persistent cries 24 h after measles vaccine was

[Necrotizing fasciitis caused by a Garengeot's hernia. Case report].

Garengeot's hernia corresponds to the presence of the appendix within a femoral hernia, associated or not with acute appendicitis. The diagnosis of this uncommon situation is usually done during surgery. Furthermore, the clinical presentation as necrotizing fasciitis is a rare condition. We report a 54 years old obese hypertensive woman with rheumatoid arthritis of 40 years of evolution treated with methotrexate and prednisone. She consulted for pain and erythema in the right inguinal region. Laboratory revealed leukocytosis and an elevated C-reactive Protein. Suspecting a cellulitis, the pati
