PURPOSE: Fiberoptic ductoscopy allows direct visualization of the breast ductal lumen, providing a targeted approach to the diagnosis of intraductal disease. The purpose of this prospective study was to determine whether (1) endoscopic evaluation of the breast could be reliably performed, and (2) ductoscopic data (intraductal distance traveled, visual observations, epithelial and foam cell quantity, cytology) predict whether a woman has breast cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To improve the therapy effect of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) for the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) with the use of sleep pharyngolaryngoscopy and the Müller maneuver to localize pharyngeal airway collapse.

We studied five adult male patients with central sleep apnea syndrome (> 75% of the monitored events being central) during sleep using a fiberoptic scope and EMG monitoring of the superior and middle constrictors of the pharynx and the genioglossus and geniohyoid muscles. This review of our experience is focused on the usefulness of thin and ultrathin ureteroscopes such as the 7 F Gautier rigid ureteroscope with rod lens optics (Wolf) or the new, ultrathin 4.8 F Wolf ureteroscope, semirigid, fiberoptic, in conjunction with atraumatic sources of energy such as pulsed dye laser or ballistic lithotripter, for the treatment of ureteral stones in children.

We have reviewed the results of 167 consecutive bronchograms carried out through the fibreoptic bronchoscope at the end of the bronchoscopic examination. Additional diagnostic information was obtained in 61 (37%) of the patients. The diagnostic accuracy achieved by taking bronchial mucosal and lung biopsies through flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopes was compared with scalene lymph node biopsy in 55 patients with sarcoidosis. The diagnostic yield with flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy was 62 per cent in the whole material and increased to 76 per cent in patients with stage II sarcoidosis.
