Supersaturated Oxygen Therapy for Wound Healing: A Comprehensive Review.

Chronic wounds are a major source of patient morbidity and healthcare expenditure, with impaired tissue oxygenation recognized as a notable obstacle to successful repair. Supersaturated oxygen (SSO2) therapies have gained increasing traction as adjunctive treatments to improve the local wound environment and support the healing process. This review examines the current research and applications of SSO2 therapy in wound healing, including its proposed biological effects, methods of administration, clinical outcomes, and safety considerations. Current research suggests that oxygen-enriched thera

Navigating the complexities of home-based palliative care: Lessons from a case of advanced cancer.

Home-based palliative care offers a compassionate way to support terminally ill patients in familiar settings, but its implementation in resource-limited environments is challenging. We share our experience with a 35-year-old man with advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, previously treated with radiotherapy and brachytherapy, who presented with metastatic pleural effusion and severe respiratory distress. Despite comprehensive symptom management in the palliative care ward-including opioid titration, nerve blocks, and psychological support-his wife faced substantial barriers to provi

Factors Influencing Caregivers' Use of Respite Care Services: Secondary Analysis of the National Study of Caregiving.

This study examines when and why unpaid caregivers use respite services. We conducted a secondary analysis of the 2017 National Study of Caregiving (NSOC) Wave III, a U.S. nationally representative sample comprising 2652 unpaid caregivers. We found that unpaid caregivers reporting financial, physical, and emotional difficulties in caregiving were more likely to use respite care services than those not reporting these challenges. White, non-Hispanic caregivers reporting that they received support from their social networks (families/friends) were more likely to use respite care services than no

Typology of ageing and its associations with the end of life and death among older adults in China: a longitudinal person-centred study.

OBJECTIVES: Studies on ageing trajectories typically foreground intrinsic capacities and focus on frailty and mortality outcomes. Instead, research capturing aspects of people's living environment alongside individuals' capacities is limited. This study aimed to identify qualitatively distinctive ageing profiles among deceased older adults in China using individual-based and environment-based indicators. It further examined sociodemographic correlates of profile membership and investigated associations between these profiles and end-of-life and death-related outcomes. DESIGN: This is a retros

Financial venous stasis and thrombosis: A circulatory architecture for frozen capital and high-value care.

Health systems face a paradox. Aging populations, advanced therapeutics, and long-term needs expand demand for high-value care while large financial stocks coexist with incomplete service coverage and widespread financial hardship. The article examines whether this mismatch reflects a circulatory pathology of capital allocation in care-intensive sectors where biological vulnerability and human dignity are most exposed. This paper uses a structured conceptual synthesis for theory building rather than statistical estimation. It integrates research on precautionary saving, institutional trust, he

Identifying risk factors associated with postpartum depression: a retrospective case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common complication following childbirth, affecting approximately 10-20% of women. Despite its prevalence, PPD remains underdiagnosed and insufficiently addressed in routine perinatal care, particularly in large cohorts from German-speaking countries. The study aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of biological and psychosocial risk factors across the perinatal period that contribute to the onset of PPD. METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted via an online survey with nearly 1,000 recent mothers from Germany, Austria, and Sw

Impact of Digitalization on Performance of Dutch Hospitals: Longitudinal Quantitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Hospitals continue to invest heavily to increase their level of digitalization. While advanced digital maturity is assumed to improve hospital performance, empirical evidence remains mixed. This tension is mirrored by the productivity paradox of IT, whereby investments in digital technologies do not consistently translate into observable performance gains. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the relationship between the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) score and hospitals' financial, operational, and w
