U.S. federally funded television public service announcements (PSAs) to prevent HIV/AIDS: a content analysis.

This article reports a content analysis of 56 English-language public service announcements (PSAs) for HIV/AIDS prevention produced since 1987 by the U.S. federal government for television broadcast. These PSAs do not lead target audiences through a logical sequence from awareness to motivation, skill building, and maintenance. The PSAs underutilize a strategy of "strategic ambiguity" to craft individual PSAs that can address the needs of and appeal to multiple target audiences, thereby directing information not only to heterosexuals, the primary target of these PSAs, but also to homosexuals a

Achieving Universal Health Coverage for Oral Health by 2030 in Armed Conflict-Affected Settings: Challenges and Pathways.

BACKGROUND: In 2025, over 110 armed conflicts were reported globally, affecting an estimated two billion people. Oral health remains critically neglected in conflict-affected settings, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where it is deprioritised amid competing health demands. Despite commitments made at the 2024 WHO Global Oral Health Meeting and through the Bangkok Declaration, existing policy frameworks insufficiently address the challenges of achieving universal health coverage (UHC) for oral health in these contexts. AIMS: To examine the systemic barriers to impleme

Left ventricular structure and function in primary hyperparathyroidism before and after parathyroidectomy.

BACKGROUND: Global policy to guide action on musculoskeletal (MSK) health is in a nascent phase. Lagging behind other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) there is currently little global policy to assist governments to develop national approaches to MSK health. Considering the importance of comparison and learning for global policy development, we aimed to perform a comparative analysis of national MSK policies to identify areas of innovation and draw common themes and principles that could guide MSK health policy. METHODS: Multi-modal search strategy incorporating a systematic online search tar

Beyond Iron Supplementation: A Narrative Review of the Structural Determinants of Anaemia in Pregnancy in India.

India's anaemia burden is not a single problem but at least four overlapping ones. The first is uncertainty in burden assessment, illustrated by substantially different capillary versus venous haemoglobin estimates and the removal of haemoglobin testing from the sixth National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6). The second is a biomedical framing miscalculation, in which iron deficiency anaemia is treated as synonymous with anaemia despite evidence that iron deficiency accounts for only about half of cases. The third is a health system design problem, reflected in repeated strategic overhauls of An

Implementation Barriers and Facilitators of an Integrated Care Initiative Targeting Socioeconomically Vulnerable Groups.

INTRODUCTION: The incorporation of integrated care initiatives for socioeconomically vulnerable groups into standard care is rare. Insight into implementation barriers and facilitators to select strategies for further implementation and upscaling are therefore needed. DESCRIPTION: This study evaluated the implementation of an integrated care initiative adopting interprofessional collaborative practice of patient-centred care for citizens with prediabetes in the form of group consultations. RESULTS: Key barriers included insufficient involvement of citizens in the design of the group consulta

Delphi consensus validation of an integrated climate sensitive diabetes management model for climate vulnerable health systems in Iran.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rising rapidly in Iran, where climate-related hazards such as heatwaves, sand and dust storms, and disruptions to food and medicine supply chains challenge continuity and quality of care. We sought to validate a climate-sensitive, health system-oriented management model for T2DM using a Delphi consensus process. Eighteen experts in diabetes, noncommunicable diseases and health systems rated 51 statements derived from the preliminary Integrated Iranian Climate-Sensitive Diabetes Management Model (ICDMM), mapped onto six domains aligned with WHO health system b

Access to radical and palliative radiotherapy in low- and middle-income countries: challenges, progress, and future directions.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bear over half of the global cancer mortality but have access to only 5% of global radiotherapy resources. As the cancer burden rises and equity in palliative care gains global attention, a focused review on palliative radiotherapy access in LMICs is both timely and necessary. RECENT FINDINGS: Barriers to radiotherapy access in LMICs are multifaceted, including infrastructure gaps, workforce shortages, geographic centralization, high out-of-pocket costs, and systemic underinvestment. Palliative radiotherapy, despite its proven cost-e

The history of brucellosis in the Middle East: insights for contemporary health challenges.

Brucellosis, a significant zoonotic disease in the Middle East, presents substantial economic and public health consequences. Despite concerted efforts toward its control and eradication, managing the disease faces various challenges. While One Health approaches prioritize interdisciplinary actions to enhance disease understanding, communication, and policy, they often overlook historical perspectives. These regions experience significant brucellosis loads attributed to livestock density, pastoralism, and transboundary animal migration. Historical documentation, encompassing old medical manusc

How Clinical Research Can Contribute to Strengthening Health Systems in Low Resource Countries.

Clinical research on neglected tropical diseases is a challenge in low-resource countries, and the contribution of clinical and operational research to health system strengthening is poorly documented. Developing new, simple, safe, and effective treatments may improve the effectiveness of health systems, and conducting research directly in health structures may have an additional impact. This study describes the process of conducting clinical trials in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in compliance with international standards, and the role of the trials in strengthening health system fu

Living kidney donors: current state of affairs.

Living kidney donation continues as the cornerstone of transplantation. In order to determine with ever-renewing assurance that living donation is safe for the donor, we need to periodically review the literature, review the United Network for Organ Sharing database for donor characteristics that may put them in danger, and scour databases for donors starting dialysis and/or listed for transplant. Additionally, we must encourage financing studies that follow large diverse cohorts of donors over their entire lifetimes in order to detect key characteristics that influence outcomes. Currently, it

A collaborative effort to enhance HIV/STI screening in five county jails.

Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) supports collaborations among health departments (CA, FL, GA, IL, MA, NJ, NY), correctional facilities, and community-based organizations to improve services to HIV-infected inmates, particularly as they return to the community. Additionally, HRSA funded the Evaluation and Program Support Center to guide the implementation of a multi-site evaluation of the Corrections Demonstration Project (CDP). The authors present a model approach to the problem of health disparities that i

Conceptualizing an athlete support ecosystem for women in professional team sport.

The expanse of women's professional team sports has burgeoned in the last ten years. The inroads made by women's leagues have raised questions about how to equitably and sustainably support, finance, and manage and foster the growth and development of women athletes. Women's leagues have unique characteristics that warrant recognition and positioning which are different from their counterpart men's leagues and enable gender specific value creation. However, the development of many women's leagues, both stand alone and those that share league governing bodies with the men's leagues, have positi

A scoping review of the global evolution of addiction treatment systems: evidence-based models and implementation challenges for health system adaptation in Iran.

Addiction treatment systems have increasingly evolved from fragmented and isolated models of care toward integrated, continuous, and community-oriented approaches. However, evidence regarding their global evolution, emerging service models, and adaptation challenges across different health-system contexts remains dispersed. This scoping review explored the development of addiction treatment systems, identified evidence-based service models and their implementation challenges, and explore their implications for health-system adaptation in Iran. The review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (J
