A 65-year-old woman had a ground glass nodule, which was suspicious for lung cancer, in her right lung S6 by chest computed tomography. For diagnosis, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery was performed, and the specimen showed a pathological pattern of lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia (LIP). Four years after surgery, new localized ground glass shadows gradually increased on the base of the lung. The photocatalytic inactivation of Bacillus subtilis spores in air was evaluated employing a fixed-bed reactor with TiO2-coated glass rings, under artificial UV-A radiation. Calculations of the radiation effectively absorbed inside the reactor were carried out by Monte Carlo simulations. In the absence of overt structural abnormalities, the diagnostic approach to chronic abdominal pain can be challenging. Occupational particulate inhalation causing injury to an organ other than the lung is rare. We report a case of inadvertent glass microparticulate ingestion causing chronic abdominal pain with altered local and systemic inflammatory responses.

The Er(3+) codoped with CdS nanoparticles in sol-gel glass with an average particle size of about 10 nm have been synthesized by sol-gel method.
