[Pachydermodactyly: seven new cases].

INTRODUCTION: Pachydermodactyly is a superficial benign digital fibromatosis usually involving the proximal portions of the fingers. It is clinically characterized by an asymptomatic, bulbous, soft-tissue swelling around proximal phalanges and interphalangeal joints. We report here seven new cases of pachydermodactyly. CASE REPORTS: Seven patients (4 F, 3 M) ranging in age from 14 to 63 years were studied. Two of them were affected by tuberous sclerosis; two other patients were sisters, one of whom was affected by the transgrediens form of pachydermodactyly. The personal history of two male p

Intralesional Interferon Alfa-2b Versus Cryotherapy for Common Warts on the Hands and Feet: A Randomized, Open-Label, Controlled Trial.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of interferon injection therapy for common warts on the hands and feet and to analyze its associated adverse reactions. METHODS: A total of 326 patients with common warts located on the hands and feet who were treated at our hospital between January 2024 and February 2025 were enrolled. Using a block randomization method, the patients were divided into a control group (n = 163, treated with cryotherapy) and an observation group (n = 163, treated with intralesional interferon alfa-2b injection). The two groups were compared in terms of clinical effi

Occupational issues of irritant contact dermatitis.

Occupational irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), a non-immunological cutaneous inflammatory response to a workplace substance, comprises a major portion of occupational dermatoses in industrialized societies, resulting in considerable social and economic implications. The sheer morphological variety of ICD presents a diagnostic and classification challenge; ideotypes identified to date include acute, chronic and cumulative irritant dermatitis, delayed acute irritant dermatitis, irritant reaction, pustular irritant dermatitis, suberythematous irritation, sensory irritation, friction dermatitis a

Atypical Chromoblastomycosis Presenting as a Large Lesion of the Hand and Forearm Resembling Lupus Vulgaris: A Clinicopathological Case Report.

Chromoblastomycosis is a chronic implantation mycosis caused by melanized fungi, typically affecting rural male workers following traumatic inoculation with soil or vegetative matter. It most commonly involves the lower limbs and is often diagnosed late because of its indolent course and its resemblance to other chronic verrucous dermatoses. We report the case of a 54-year-old man who presented with a 10-year history of a slowly progressive lesion involving the right hand and distal forearm. The lesion was associated with intermittent pruritus and occasional serous discharge. Clinically, the l

Occupational contact allergy to components of polyester resin systems.

BACKGROUND: Allergic contact dermatitis caused by polyester resin is considered to be rare. OBJECTIVES: To describe 11 new patients diagnosed with occupational contact allergy to components of polyester resin systems in 1994-2009. METHODS: Data on occupations, patch test results, symptoms and exposure to polyester products were retrieved from patient files, covering 1994 to February 2015. RESULTS: Five patients reacted to unsaturated polyester resin putties. In 3 of these cases, putties were considered to be the main cause of the dermatitis. Four patients had cobalt allergy resulting from c

Unusual complications after occupational exposure to giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum): a case report.

Exposure to giant hogweed brings about the risk of serious skin damage, usually in the form of phytophotodermatitis. Initially, skin changes are signaled by a burning sensation, followed by a vesiculobullous rash and long-term hyperpigmentation. Usually, skin disorders improve after the application of topical and oral corticosteroids. In extremely rare instances, full skin thickness burns or epidermal necrosis occur. The study presents a case of occupational exposure to hogweed, which resulted in extensive skin lesions leading to the disablement of a 27-year-old man. The principles of procedur

[Onychomycosis : a crown jewel of dermatology].

Onychomycosis is a curable infection disease. It is widespread, but not easy to treat. Because fungal pathogens never induce immunity, the relapse rate of mycoses is generally high. The main causes are residual fungal spores in the nail and the individual susceptibility of the patient, which can hardly be influenced. Crucial for long-term therapeutic success is a sporicidal topical therapy. In severe cases ones also needs long-term, well-tolerated systemic therapy, based on accurate microbiological diagnosis of the causative agent. Presented is a three-step therapeutic approach that is easy to

Allergic contact dermatitis from exotic woods: importance of patch-testing with patient-provided samples.

Exotic woods from tropical and subtropical regions (eg, from South America, south Asia, and Africa) frequently are used occupationally and recreationally by woodworkers and hobbyists. These exotic woods more commonly provoke irritant contact dermatitis reactions, but they also can provoke allergic contact dermatitis reactions. We report three patients seen at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) with allergic contact dermatitis reactions to exotic woods. Patch testing was performed and included patient-provided wood samples. Avoidance of identified allergens was recommended. For all patients, the derma
