Topically applied hydrocortisone was used to develop an animal model for persistent tympanic membrane (TM) perforations. In order to determine the importance of the adrenal gland in the beneficial effects of the opiate antagonist naloxone in shock we studied 23 adrenalectomized dogs subjected to hemorrhagic shock. METHODS: We conducted a randomized, double-blind trial of post-cardiac arrest patients in shock, defined as vasopressor support for a minimum of 1 hour.
