The case of a boy, observed from 9-17 years of age, with de Lange syndrome is described. The typical symptoms of the de Lange syndrome (brachymicrocephalie, characteristic face, hypertrichosis, typical form of the hand, debility and proportioned shortening) were combined with intensivity to pain and psychomotoric epilepsy. He showed a strikingly aggressive behaviour and simultaneous masochism with self-mutilation as it is typical for analgesia congenita. The autopsy showed cortical heterotopias of the brain and slight microgyria.

Four qualitative morphological traits (relative finger length, hypertrichosis of external ear, association of the eyebrows, cheek-dimples) and the ability to taste PTC have been studied in a total of 7831 males and females from Thessaloniki and its surroundings. This sample is representative for the population of Northern Greece. The distribution of all these five parameters is showing more or less marked sex differences. The frequencies found in the Greek sample are compared with those reported for other populations.

A woman in her 20s, symptomatic since the age of 4 with short stature, hearing loss, skin hyperpigmentation and induration over the medial aspect of the thigh, hypertrichosis, histiocytes on biopsy, lymphadenopathy, dilated scleral vessels, pancreatic exocrine deficiency, pericardial thickening, swelling of the eyelids and resistant retroperitoneal fibrosis. Whole-genome sequencing showed a mutation in SLC29A3, confirming 'H'-syndrome. She is on steroids and methotrexate. This case highlights the rheumatological mimics of this rare disorder.

Zimmermann-Laband syndrome is an inherited disorder that is characterized by abnormalities of the head, face, hands, and feet. Most children with this disorder have generalized hypertrichosis, large gingivae, and hypoplasia of the fingernails and toenails. We report a male infant who exhibited typical features of Zimmermann-Laband syndrome with an unusual histopathologic finding. Excised tissue from the infant's gingivae showed papillary projections that were composed of hyperplastic stratified squamous epithelium with different amounts of keratinization.

Happle-Tinschert syndrome is a rare genodermatosis caused by a postzygotic mutation in SMO gene. The most recognized clinical findings include segmentally arranged basaloid follicular hamartomas, nevoid hypertrichosis, linear atrophoderma, and hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation following Blaschko lines associated with osseous, dental, and cerebral alterations. We report three additional cases, two of which lacked the pathognomonic basaloid follicular hamartomas, with genetic confirmation and detailed clinical characterization and describe new cutaneous features of this infrequent syndrome.

Superpotent topical steroids used to treat psoriasis and steroid-responsive dermatoses may produce local cutaneous side effects, including atrophy, steroid acne, perioral dermatitis, hypopigmentation, hypertrichosis and superinfections. Suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis may be one of the systemic side effects. Superpotent topical steroids should not be used under occlusion, in flexural areas, on the face and in children. The total amount used per week and the duration of treatment should be carefully monitored.

H syndrome (OMIM 602782) is a recently defined autosomal recessive genodermatosis. Cutaneous findings of H syndrome include hyperpigmentation, hypertrichosis, and induration, while hearing loss, heart anomalies, hepatomegaly, hypogonadism, hyperglycemia (diabetes mellitus), low height (short stature), hallux valgus (flexion contractures), and hematological abnormalities are the extracutaneous abnormalities. We report a novel homozygous missense mutation, c.416T > C p.(Leu139Pro), in the SLC29A3 (NM_001174098.1) gene in two sisters with H syndrome presenting with different phenotypes.

Use of cosmetic products to bleach or lighten the skin is common among dark-skinned women in some sub-Saharan African countries. Long-term use of some pharmacologic compounds (e.g. hydroquinone, glucocorticoids and mercury) can cause adverse effects including dermatologic disorders such as dyschromia, exogenous ochronosis, acne and hypertrichosis, prominent striae, tinea corporis, pyoderma, erysipelas, scabies, and contact dermatitis and systemic complications such as hypertension, hypercorticism or surrenal deficiency, and mercurial nephropathy.
