T Cell Immunogenicity, Gene Expression Profile, and Safety of Four Heterologous Prime-Boost Combinations of HIV Vaccine Candidates in Healthy Volunteers: Results of the Randomized Multi-Arm Phase I/II ANRS VRI01 Trial.

Heterologous prime-boost strategies are of interest for HIV vaccine development. The order of prime-boost components could be important for the induction of T cell responses. In this phase I/II multi-arm trial, three vaccine candidates were used as prime or boost: modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA) HIV-B (coding for Gag, Pol, Nef); HIV LIPO-5 (five lipopeptides from Gag, Pol, Nef); DNA GTU-MultiHIV B (coding for Rev, Nef, Tat, Gag, Env gp160 clade B). Healthy human volunteers (n = 92) were randomized to four groups: 1) MVA at weeks 0/8 + LIPO-5 at weeks 20/28 (M/L); 2) LIPO-5 at weeks 0/8 + MVA at

Comparison of the Effectiveness and Safety of Heterologous Booster Doses with Homologous Booster Doses for SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

As vaccine resources were distributed unevenly worldwide, sometimes there might have been shortages or delays in vaccine supply; therefore, considering the use of heterogeneous booster doses for Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) might be an alternative strategy. Therefore, we aimed to review the data available to evaluate and compare the effectiveness and safety of heterologous booster doses with homologous booster doses for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines. We searched relevant studies up to 27 April 2022. Random-effects inverse variance models were used

[Immunogenicity of additional varicella vaccination 3-5 years after the initial vaccination].

Additional varicella vaccination was carried out targeting 16 subjects who had immune adherence hemagglutination (IAHA) seroconversion following the initial varicella vaccination and did not contract breakthrough varicella after the initial vaccination. The median ages at the initial and additional vaccination were 2.1 (1.1-6.9) years old and 6.1 (4.4-10.5) years old, respectively. The mean interval between the initial and additional vaccination was 4.0 (3.2-5.2) years. IAHA and glycoprotein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (gpELISA) antibody titers were measured just before and 4-6 wee

Cost-effectiveness of supplementary immunization for measles in India.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to estimate the incremental cost effectiveness of a supplementary immunization activity (SIA) for measles in a district of India with measles vaccine coverage equivalent to the National average. DESIGN: A state transition model is used to estimate the effect of routine vaccination with measles vaccine as well as with measles vaccine during the SIA. The model follows each sub-cohort in the target population at respective age (1-5 years) to five years of age, using age specific incidence rate and vaccination rate to determine the number of cases of measles. Using age

Immunogenicity of standard-titer measles vaccine in HIV-1-infected and uninfected Zambian children: an observational study.

BACKGROUND: Achieving the level of population immunity required for measles elimination may be difficult in regions of high human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) prevalence, because HIV-1-infected children may be less likely to respond to or maintain protective antibody levels after vaccination. METHODS: We conducted a prospective study of the immunogenicity of standard-titer measles vaccine administered at 9 months of age to HIV-1-infected and uninfected children in Lusaka, Zambia. RESULTS: From May 2000 to November 2002, 696 children aged 2-8 months were enrolled. Within 6 months of

Safety and immunogenicity of a booster dose of Vibrio cholerae CVD 103-HgR live oral cholera vaccine in Swiss adults.

Adult volunteers received a booster dose (4 x 10(8) CFU) of attenuated Vibrio cholerae CVD 103-HgR oral vaccine 15 or 24 months after primary immunization. The immune response was modest, presumably due to rapid clearance of the vaccine strain by a primed immune system.

Multistate Mumps Outbreak Originating from Asymptomatic Transmission at a Nebraska Wedding - Six States, August-October 2019.

In August 2019, 30 attendees at a Nebraska wedding developed mumps after being exposed to one asymptomatic index patient who was fully vaccinated according to Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations (1), resulting in a multistate outbreak. A public health investigation and response revealed epidemiologic links that extended from the index patient through secondary, tertiary, and quaternary patients and culminated in a measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) booster vaccination campaign in the local community where approximately half of the patients resided.

Vaccine-Strain Varicella Virus Transmitted to a Term Infant Following Maternal Postpartum Vaccination.

Varicella is a highly contagious disease caused by Varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) adopted the routine administration of varicella vaccine to varicella non-immune mothers postpartum before leaving the facility per the Advisory Committee in Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation of Varicella prevention. While the vaccine is well-tolerated, a live attenuated vaccine has the potential to cause clinical symptoms and complications, including rash. Secondary transmission of the vaccine virus from healthy persons is rare. Only 13 conf

Persistent excess mortality in post-pandemic Japan: current evidence, methodological limitations, and future directions.

More than six years after the emergence of COVID-19, Japan continues to experience persistently elevated excess mortality despite entering a post-pandemic phase. Excess mortality, defined as the difference between observed and expected deaths, reflects both direct and indirect effects of the pandemic, including healthcare disruption, delayed care, and broader social changes. In Japan, mortality decreased slightly in 2020 but increased markedly from 2022 onward, with annual excess deaths approaching 100,000, despite widespread vaccination and the predominance of the less virulent Omicron varian

Pertussis in India: Vaccine-driven evolution, waning immunity, and the urgent need for Tdap boosters.

BACKGROUND: Pertussis, once controlled by whole-cell pertussis (wP) vaccines, has resurged due to the shift to acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines, waning immunity, antigenic variation, and macrolide resistant Bordetella pertussis strains. Despite high DTwP coverage, India continues to face a significant burden and this review synthesizes current knowledge and advocates for enhanced surveillance, updated vaccination strategies, and targeted interventions to reduce the clinical and public health impact of pertussis. METHODS: Epidemiological data, genetic studies, and immunological insights from

Safety profile of BCG revaccination for COVID prevention among elderly individuals in India.

BCG vaccination is known to be safe in infants and a part of immunization schedule in high tuberculosis (TB) burden countries. In the conquest to bring down the severity of the COVID 19 pandemic, many drugs were repurposed in research mode including BCG vaccination/revaccination in various populations. We did a study among the elderly population (>60 years of age) to assess the role of BCG revaccination in preventing the severity of COVID 19 disease. Live attenuated BCG vaccine was given to the willing participants and were followed up for 6 months to estimate COVID19 incidence, understand sev
