English Translation and Cultural Adaptation of the Knee Numeric-Entity Evaluation Score (KNEES-ACL): A Condition-Specific Patient-Reported Outcome Measure for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries.

BACKGROUND: The Knee Numeric-Entity Evaluation Score (KNEES-ACL) is a 41-item condition-specific patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that was developed for patients with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency and patients after ACL reconstruction. This measure is intended to be used for longitudinal clinical studies. The KNEES-ACL has demonstrated face and content validity and superior responsiveness compared with other PROMs commonly used in patients with an ACL injury. However, this PROM was developed in Danish and has not been appropriately translated and culturally adapted into

Effects of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction combined with sodium hyaluronate on knee function and inflammatory markers in anterior cruciate ligament injury patients with or without knee osteoarthritis.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACLI) is a common sports injury of the knee joint, and ACLI patients often develop early knee osteoarthritis (KOA) after surgery. This may be due to the activation of a post-surgical inflammatory response. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the treatment efficacy of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (AACLR) combined with sodium hyaluronate (SH) in ACLI patients with and without KOA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 226 ACLI patients with or without KOA who were admitted between July 2015 and December 2018

In silico prioritization of potential matrix metalloproteinase-13 inhibitors for cartilage degeneration in knee injury-associated osteoarthritis.

Knee trauma is an important risk factor for post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA), a progressive joint disease characterized by articular cartilage degeneration and limited disease-modifying treatment options. Matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13/collagenase-3) contributes to cartilage extracellular matrix degradation through cleavage of type II collagen, making it a relevant molecular target for cartilage-protective drug discovery. This study aimed to identify and prioritize potential small-molecule MMP-13 inhibitors using an integrated in silico workflow. The workflow included MMP-13 sequence

Brain and knee joint degeneration following anterior cruciate ligament injury in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and osteoarthritis (OA) are 2 of the most common health conditions affecting the elderly. Recent studies in mice and humans have described an association between OA and AD, with prevalent OA increasing the risk of developing AD-like cognitive declines. In this study, we investigated brain and knee joint degeneration and neurocognitive dysfunction in a mouse model of AD (APP/PS1 double transgenic mice) in the presence or absence of OA induced by non-invasive ACL rupture. We hypothesized that OA would be associated with increased beta amyloid (Aβ) and phosphorylated tau

Persistent isokinetic knee flexion strength deficits at the time of return to sport are not associated with a second ACL injury.

PURPOSE: To investigate the rate of a second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury based on different levels of knee flexion strength limb symmetry index (LSI) at the time of return to sport (RTS) after ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft. METHODS: Data was extracted from a rehabilitation registry for patients aged 15-40 years, who participated in knee-strenuous sports pre-injury (Tegner ≥ 6) and underwent ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft. Isokinetic knee flexion strength was analysed and reported as LSI. Patients were categorised into three groups (≥90%, 80

Risk factors for perioperative nerve injury associated with total knee arthroplasty: Analysis of a national administrative database.

INTRODUCTION: Nerve injury related to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a rare but serious complication. Previous studies identifying risk factors for nerve injury related to TKA have been constrained by institutional data or small cohorts. The current study utilized a comprehensive, national, administrative database to investigate independent risk factors for nerve injury associated with TKA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PearlDiver M161 database was queried for adult TKA procedures performed between 2010 and 2022. Cases with postoperative nerve injury within 90 days of surgery were identified.

Knee Extensor and Flexor Force Control after ACL Injury and Reconstruction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE: Reduced force control after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction may contribute to poor function. Various metrics (linear and nonlinear) have been employed to quantify force control. The aims of this review were to synthesize evidence assessing knee extensor and flexor force control after ACL injury (ACLD) or reconstruction (ACLR) and to investigate the potential effects of injury management (e.g., surgery, graft type), mode of contraction (e.g., isometric, isokinetic), and speed and intensity of contraction. METHODS: We searched six databases for studies assess

Comparative study of the outcomes of one-stage versus two-stage reconstruction of chronic multiligament knee injury.

BACKGROUND: Multi-ligament knee injury (MLKI) is a complex orthopaedic knee problem, usually following traumatic knee dislocation. Surgical management is preferred and has resulted in better clinical outcomes. However, the optimal surgical treatment protocol is continuously evolving. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of one-stage versus two-stage reconstruction of MLKI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative study was conducted between July 2020 and December 2023 at a government orthopaedic hospital in Nigeria. The inclusion criteria include males and females between 18

Item-Specific Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Characterization of Patients With Medial Meniscus Root Tear.

BACKGROUND: Most studies regarding medial meniscus posterior root tear (MMPRT) report total Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscale values as important patient-reported outcomes, but there are few symptom-specific characterizations of patients with MMPRT. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to characterize the prevalence and severity of symptoms and functional limitations among patients with MMPRT based on item-level KOOS responses. It was hypothesized that patients with MMPRT would show similar symptoms to those of other meniscal tear types, with items from

Revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Combination With Meniscal and Osteochondral Allograft Transplantation for Complex Knee Injury.

Revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) may present a challenge as a result of several factors, including malpositioned bone tunnels, tunnel osteolysis, and the presence of previous hardware. In addition, concomitant pathology, specifically meniscal and cartilaginous injuries, may be present and should be addressed to minimize the risk of re-rupture. Revision ACLR and treatment of accompanying injuries can be performed either as a 1-stage or 2-stage procedure, yet the latter may increase surgical risk for the patient and extend recovery time. The over-the-top technique serves

Case report: A case of injury to the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve caused by medial approach in knee arthroscopy.

We present the case of a 72-year-old man who was referred to our department for treatment of pain on the anteromedial infrapatellar side of the right knee with sensory disturbance that began 2 years earlier. The patient previously underwent right knee arthroscopy at another hospital for a meniscus injury 2 years earlier, which relieved his knee pain, but pain and discomfort near the incision of the medial portal persisted. Given this situation, various physical treatments, such as ice compress, were administered postoperatively. However, the symptom was only partially relieved before discharge

Targeted proteomics for evaluating risk of venous thrombosis following traumatic lower-leg injury or knee arthroscopy.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with lower-leg cast immobilization and patients undergoing knee arthroscopy have an increased risk of venous thrombosis (VT). Guidelines are ambiguous about thromboprophylaxis use, and individual risk factors for developing VT are often ignored. To assist in VT risk stratification and guide thromboprophylaxis use, various prediction models have been developed. These models depend largely on clinical factors and provide reasonably good C-statistics of around 70%. We explored using protein levels in blood plasma measured by multiplexed quantitative targeted proteomics to p

Deconstruction of Knee Cartilage Injury in Athletes Using MR Images Based on Artificial Intelligence Segmentation Algorithm.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The knee joint is the second largest joint in the human body, with a wide range of functional activities and strong support for the human body. Moreover, the cartilage of the knee joint is hyaline cartilage, which is relatively brittle, so it is most vulnerable to trauma. In clinical work, the damage of articular cartilage is a disease with a high rate of orthopedic visits. In this paper, all the experimental group cases included in the observation were patients with acute articular cartilage injury or OA diagnosed by knee arthroscopy. All experimental groups and control groups did not have an

Association of Geometric Characteristics of Knee Anatomy (Alpha Angle and Intercondylar Notch Type) With Noncontact ACL Injury.

BACKGROUND: The femoral intercondylar notch type and the alpha angle (the angle between the femoral notch roof and the long axis of the femur) are easily measured in clinical settings; however, their associations with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury remain unclear. HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose was to determine if the alpha angle and the femoral notch type are associated with noncontact ACL injury univariately and in combination with previously identified knee geometric risk factors. We hypothesized that the alpha angle and the femoral notch type are associated with noncontact ACL i
