How should DSM-V classify eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS) presentations in women with lifetime anorexia or bulimia nervosa?

OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) are marked by longitudinal symptom fluctuations. DSM-IV-TR does not address how to classify eating disorder (ED) presentations in individuals who no longer meet full criteria for these disorders. To consider this issue, we examined subthreshold presentations in women with initial diagnoses of AN and BN. METHOD: A total of 246 women with AN or BN were followed for a median of 9 years; weekly symptom data were collected at frequent intervals using the Longitudinal Interval Follow-up Evaluation of Eating Disorders (LIFE-EAT-II). Outcomes

Examination of predictors and moderators for self-help treatments of binge-eating disorder.

Predictors and moderators of outcomes were examined in 75 overweight patients with binge-eating disorder (BED) who participated in a randomized clinical trial of guided self-help treatments. Age variables, psychiatric and personality disorder comorbidity, and clinical characteristics were tested as predictors and moderators of treatment outcomes. Current age and age of BED onset did not predict outcomes. Key dimensional outcomes (binge frequency, eating psychopathology, and negative affect) were predominately predicted, but not moderated, by their respective pretreatment levels. Presence of pe

Hypothesis: grandiosity and guilt cause paranoia; paranoid schizophrenia is a psychotic mood disorder; a review.

Delusional paranoia has been associated with severe mental illness for over a century. Kraepelin introduced a disorder called "paranoid depression," but "paranoid" became linked to schizophrenia, not to mood disorders. Paranoid remains the most common subtype of schizophrenia, but some of these cases, as Kraepelin initially implied, may be unrecognized psychotic mood disorders, so the relationship of paranoid schizophrenia to psychotic bipolar disorder warrants reevaluation. To address whether paranoia associates more with schizophrenia or mood disorders, a selected literature is reviewed and

Evaluation of a self-help program to reduce alcohol consumption among pregnant women.

This study tested a cognitive-behavioral intervention for reducing alcohol consumption among economically disadvantaged pregnant women. The intervention included a 10-minute educational session and a nine-step self-help manual. Women attending public health maternity clinics completed a screening questionnaire, a pretest questionnaire, were randomly assigned to receive the self-help intervention or usual clinic care, and completed a posttest questionnaire. A higher alcohol quit rate was observed among the intervention participants (88%) than controls (69%). The effect was strongest for "light"

Global randomised controlled trials in infection prevention and control: a bibliographic review from the past two decades.

BACKGROUND: Infection prevention and control (IPC) evidence is imperative to reduce healthcare-associated infections, yet IPC guidelines often rely on low-level evidence due to challenges in conducting rigorous randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Understanding long-term research trends can clarify strengths, gaps, and priorities. Therefore, this bibliometric review aimed to identify trends and patterns in IPC RCTs over the past 20 years. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in the Scopus database between January 2002 and September 2025. RCTs in IPC were included. Identified studies wer

The impact of maternal incarceration on mothers and children: A scoping review protocol.

Globally, female incarceration rates have risen in recent decades. Estimates indicate that between 60-80% of incarcerated women are mothers. Maternal incarceration (MI) is associated with negative and often enduring implications for both the mother and child. Recognising the risk of harmful outcomes, evidence-based support for both populations is essential. However, this broad research topic draws interest from academics and practitioners across many distinct but overlapping disciplines, each with different priorities, and methodological and theoretical approaches. Interdisciplinary collaborat

Applying the ADAPT-ITT Framework to Develop a Team-based Mental Health Support Model for Young Adults Transitioning from Homelessness to Housing.

Young adults experiencing homelessness (YAEH) face disproportionately high rates of mental health challenges and substantial barriers to professional mental health services, yet few interventions have been developed specifically to address their dual needs for housing stability and mental health support. This paper describes the iterative adaptation process used to develop Charge Up!, a team-based, phase-structured psychosocial intervention for YAEH transitioning from homelessness into supported housing programs, specifically Rapid Rehousing (RRH) and Transitional Housing to Rapid Rehousing (T

Rationale and Design of the Cancer Immunotherapy Evidence Living (CIEL) Library: A Continuously Updated Clinical Trial Database of Cancer Immunotherapies.

Background and aimsImmunotherapies for cancers are tested in large numbers of clinical trials. It is difficult for clinicians and researchers to stay current with the evidence, and traditional systematic reviews and clinical guidelines are not suited to ensure a continued overview of all trials and their results. To address this problem, we designed the Cancer Immunotherapy Evidence Living (CIEL) Library.MethodsWe included planned, ongoing, and completed interventional trials of immunotherapies for cancer, regardless of trial design (e.g., randomization, blinding, and type of comparator). We s

Long-term health conditions and their impact on people with sleep disturbances and dementia.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are common for people with dementia and can be distressing for them and their family. People with dementia live with an average of five other long-term conditions (LTCs). Little is known about the impact of LTCs on dementia and sleep. We aimed to explore this within the DREAMS START (Dementia Related Manual for Sleep; Strategies for relatives) trial of a multi-component intervention delivered to family carers, to consider how symptoms of LTCs impacted on carer ability to implement DREAMS START intervention strategies. METHOD: We conducted a qualitative interview

Inhalational general anesthesia with spontaneous respiration for laser in ex-preterm infants with retinopathy of prematurity.

BACKGROUND: There is no consensus on the mode of anesthesia for laser in ex-preterm infants with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).[1,2] It is technically difficult to perform laser under topical anesthesia, particularly in large infants. Conventional general anesthesia (GA) with endotracheal intubation appears appropriate; however, it has high cardio-respiratory complications.[3]. PURPOSE: This video describes a method of inhalational GA with spontaneous respiration using sevoflurane at low concentration with laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in ex-preterm infants undergoing laser for ROP. Myofascial Pain Syndrome: An Update on Clinical Characteristics, Etiopathogenesis, Diagnosis, and Treatment.

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a chronic regional pain condition characterized by trigger points-hyperirritable spots within taut bands of muscle fibers that cause both localized and referred pain. The pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, and classification of MPS are still under investigation, which complicates the development of standardized treatment protocols. Although diagnostic tools have improved, MPS often remains underrecognized due to symptom overlap with other pain disorders, such as fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and joint disorders. Factors contributing to its onset and persiste
