Altered resting-state functional connectivity density in patients with neuromyelitis optica-spectrum disorders.

BACKGROUND: Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an autoimmune, demyelinating disorder, accompanied by abnormal spontaneous activity of the brain and impairment of the retina and optic nerve. Functional connectivity density (FCD) map, a graph theory method, was applied to explore the functional connectivity alterations of brian in NMOSD patients and investigate the alterations of FCD to the structural and microvascular changes around the optic nerve head (ONH). METHODS: Nineteen NMOSD patients and 22 healthy controls (HCs) were included in our study. All participants underwent re

Restoration of Hydrogen Sulfide Production in Diabetic Mice Improves Reparative Function of Bone Marrow Cells.

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow cell (BMC)-based treatment for critical limb ischemia in diabetic patients yielded a modest therapeutic effect resulting from cell dysfunction. Therefore, approaches that improve diabetic stem/progenitor cell functions may provide therapeutic benefits. Here, we tested the hypothesis that restoration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production in diabetic BMCs improves their reparative capacities. METHODS: Mouse BMCs were isolated by density-gradient centrifugation. Unilateral hind limb ischemia was conducted in 12- to 14-week-old db/+ and db/db mice by ligation of the left fe

Cross-Trait Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies Shared Genetic Architecture Between COPD and Retinal Vascular Phenotypes.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is accompanied by systemic vascular dysfunction and microcirculatory impairment. Retinal vascular traits provide a non-invasive window into microvascular characteristics, although their shared genetic architecture with COPD remains unclear. METHODS: We integrated genome-wide association study summary statistics for COPD and 17 retinal vascular traits in individuals of European ancestry. Genome-wide genetic correlations were evaluated using linkage disequilibrium score regression and high-definition likelihood. Shared pleiotropic variant
