The impact of social exclusion on malevolent creativity among Chinese university students: the roles of empathy, moral disengagement, and teacher support.

Social exclusion, as a prevalent and profoundly detrimental situational factor, not only impairs the cognitive functions of individuals but also increases the likelihood of aggressive behaviors or malevolent creativity by eliciting negative emotions (e.g., anger, anxiety) and cognitive biases (e.g., hostile attribution). University students, who are situated in a unique social environment and a pivotal stage of personal development, exhibit distinct psychological and behavioral patterns. This highlights the critical need to explore the mechanisms underlying the relationship between social excl

Moral injury and pre-deployment personality factors as contributors to psychiatric symptomatology among combatants: a two-year prospective study.

Background: Combatants who are exposed to events that transgress deeply held moral beliefs might face lasting psychopathological outcomes, referred to as Moral Injury (MI). However, knowledge about pre-deployment factors that might moderate the negative consequences of MI is sparse. In this prospective study, we examined pre-enlistment characteristics and pre-deployment personality factors as possible moderators in the link between exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) and psychiatric symptomatology among Israeli active-duty combatants. Methods: A sample of 335 active-duty Is

Do Moral Emotions Interact with Self-Control and Unstructured Socializing in Explaining Rule-Breaking Behavior Committed Together with Friends?

Previous research has shown that moral emotions interact with self-control and unstructured socializing in explaining rule-breaking behavior. High levels of moral emotions appear to weaken the effects of both self-control and unstructured socializing, in explaining rule-breaking behavior. The current study examined whether these interactions also affect rule-breaking behavior that is explicitly committed with friends. In addition, three operationalizations of moral emotions were distinguished. Data were collected from N = 169 adolescents (54% female; mean = 14.95 years; SD = 1.7) using a self-

Role of moral disengagement and media literacy in the relationships between risky online content exposure and cyberaggression among Korean adolescents.

This study investigated the relationships among exposure to risky online content, moral disengagement, media literacy, and cyberaggression in adolescents (aged 13-15 years). Data were obtained from the 2021 Cyber Violence Survey (N = 3,002) conducted by a national agency in the Republic of Korea using systematic stratified sampling. The survey assessed eight aggressive online behaviors as indicators of cyberaggression: verbal violence, defamation, stalking, sending provocative content, personal information leakage, bullying, extortion, and coercion. Additionally, media literacy was assessed us

A prospective investigation of protective factors for moral injury and psychiatric symptomatology among Israeli combatants: A Latent Class Analysis approach.

BACKGROUND: In this prospective study, we examined pre-enlistment characteristics and pre-deployment protective factors of exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) among Israeli active-duty combatants, as well as psychiatric symptomatology outcomes of exposure. METHODS: A sample of 335 active-duty Israeli combatants participated in a 2.5-year prospective study with three waves of measurements (T1: 12 months before enlistment, T2: 6 months following enlistment- pre deployment, and T3: 18 months following enlistment- post deployment). Participants' characteristics were assessed

Moral Injury is a Risk Factor for Substance Use and Suicidality Among US Military Veterans with and without Traumatic Brain Injury.

A national survey of United States veterans was conducted, yielding 252 veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and 1235 veterans without TBI. Participants were asked questions about moral injury, suicidality, substance use, and other sociodemographic variables. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to examine the previously described relationships. Increasing severity of moral injury was associated with higher scores on the substance use tool (b = 0.02, p = 0.04), although the magnitude of effect was not different from those without TBI (Z = - 0.57, p = 0.72). Increasing severi

Morally injurious combat events as an indirect risk factor for postconcussive symptoms among veterans: The mediating role of posttraumatic stress.

OBJECTIVE: Psychosocial factors, including combat-related distress (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD]), contribute to postconcussive symptoms (PCS) among veterans with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). However, research on risk factors for PCS has focused solely on life-threatening combat experiences, neglecting the morally injurious dimension of combat-related trauma and associated implications for treatment. Morally injurious events (MIEs) are associated with PTSD symptoms among veterans, a robust risk factor of PCS. Nonetheless, the interplay between MIEs, PTSD symptoms, and PCS

Moral Injury as a Mediator of the Associations Between Sexual Harassment and Mental Health Symptoms and Substance Use Among Women Veterans.

Moral injury is an array of symptoms theorized to develop in response to morally injurious events, defined as events that challenge one's core moral beliefs and expectations about the self, others, and world. Recent measures of moral injury have distinguished self-directed moral injury (e.g., moral injury symptoms that emerge following the perpetration of morally injurious events) from other-directed moral injury, the symptoms of which are believed to stem from one's response to actions that others have committed (e.g., within-rank violence, failures of leadership, and acts of betrayal committ

Girls and women speak out from Afghan moral prisons: Tackling extremism and violence against women in a conflict environment.

ABSTRACTThis empirical research documented voices of women and girls in female shelters and prisons in Samangan, Laghman and Wardak provinces who experienced systematic sexual and gender based violence before and after they escaped forced marriages, forced virginity tests, physical and sexual violence. Women who challenged the status quo, fundamentalism and extremism faced imprisonment for up to five years. The research interviewed primary, secondary and territory health care professionals, who carried out or witnessed invasive virginity tests. The evidence suggests that women are being depriv

Should We Reject Donated Organs on Moral Grounds or Permit Allocation Using Non-Medical Criteria?: A Qualitative Study.

Conditional and directed deceased organ donations occur when donors (or often their next of kin) attempt to influence the allocation of their donated organs. This can include asking that the organs are given to or withheld from certain types of people, or that they are given to specified individuals. Donations of these types have raised ethical concerns, and have been prohibited in many countries, including the UK. In this article we report the findings from a qualitative study involving interviews with potential donors (n = 20), potential recipients (n = 9) and transplant staff (n = 11), and

[Clinical everyday ethics-support in handling moral distress? : Evaluation of an ethical decision-making model for interprofessional clinical teams].

BACKGROUND: High-tech medicine and cost rationing provoke moral distress up to burnout syndromes. The consequences are severe, not only for those directly involved but also for the quality of patient care and the institutions. The multimodal model METAP (Modular, Ethical, Treatment, Allocation, Process) was developed as clinical everyday ethics to support the interprofessional ethical decision-making process. The distinctive feature of the model lays in education concerning ethics competence in dealing with difficult treatment decisions. METAP has been evaluated for quality testing. METHODS:

'You don't make genetic test decisions from one day to the next'--using time to preserve moral space.

The part played by time in ethics is often taken for granted, yet time is essential to moral decision making. This paper looks at time in ethical decisions about having a genetic test. We use a patient-centred approach, combining empirical research methods with normative ethical analysis to investigate the patients' experience of time in (i) prenatal testing of a foetus for a genetic condition, (ii) predictive or diagnostic testing for breast and colon cancer, or (iii) testing for Huntington's disease (HD). We found that participants often manipulated their experience of time, either using a s

Occupational stress, moral dilemmas, and decision-making confidence among Chinese police officers: the mediating role of emotional exhaustion.

Police officers routinely make consequential decisions in emotionally demanding and morally ambiguous situations, yet how chronic occupational stress and moral strain relate to the confidence with which officers reach those decisions remains poorly specified. This cross-sectional study examined whether the associations of occupational stress and moral dilemmas with decision-making confidence among Chinese police officers are statistically accounted for by emotional exhaustion within a hypothesized mediation model. A convenience sample of 412 active-duty officers from three municipal police bur

Stage 1 registered report examining agency and outcome valence on inter-brain synchrony during dyadic moral judgments.

Inter-brain synchrony (IBS) has emerged as a promising marker of neural processes supporting social interaction, cooperation, and moral evaluation. Previous hyperscanning research shows that IBS increases during tasks involving joint attention, cooperation, or shared intentionality. Nevertheless, little is known about how agency-the extent to which individuals can influence outcomes-and outcome valence interact to shape neural alignment between people. Real-world social contexts often involve asymmetries in control and responsibility, and these dynamics may critically influence how individuals

Sheep and goat pox in Greece (2024-2025). A political economy, public policy, and moral-philosophical analysis of a category A epizootic.

The 2024-2025 sheep and goat pox (SGP) epidemic in Greece exposed a structural paradox at the heart of Category A disease governance. the stricter the legal obligations, the weaker the individual incentive to comply. Over fifteen months, 1905 farms were confirmed positive across more than a dozen regional units, and weekly new confirmations exceeded 100 in the autumn of 2025, more than a year after the first confirmed case. This paper argues that the outbreak trajectory cannot be understood through epidemiological models alone. It is co-produced by strategic behaviour, limits on administrative

Partner-serving moral cognition helps men to maintain romantic relationships from which they benefit more than women.

Wahring, Simpson, and Van Lange's model is well-argued but underspecifies the psychological processes contributing to men's relationship maintenance behaviors. Extending their model to the realm of moral cognition, we propose that men utilize partner-serving moral double standards to excuse their female partners' everyday relationship transgressions. Such hypercrisy helps men to sustain romantic relationships from which they benefit more than women do.

Exposure to morally injurious events, PTSD, and suicidal ideation in U.S. combat veterans: Moderating effects of attachment security and gratitude.

INTRODUCTION: Exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) has emerged as a critical determinant of veteran mental health, with growing evidence linking exposure to PMIEs to heightened risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicidal ideation (SI). This study evaluated whether protective psychosocial characteristics may moderate associations between PMIE exposure severity and PTSD and SI in a nationally representative sample of combat-exposed U.S. veterans. METHODS: Data were analyzed from a nationally representative sample of 1321 combat-exposed veterans who participate

Social mobility in transition. Value repertoires in higher education and moral meanings of the profession among first-generation graduates in Chile.

INTRODUCTION: This study examines how first-in-family graduates incorporate value repertoires during university and attribute moral meanings to their professional activity while transitioning from higher education to employment. Its purpose is to analyse the moral dimension of social mobility, focusing on the valuative frameworks through which graduates interpret their educational and occupational experiences. METHODS: Qualitative fieldwork was conducted between July 2024 and November 2025. Twenty semi-structured interviews were carried out with men and women aged 24-30 who had recently gradu
