A 40-year-old woman developed a persistent pruritus with erythema of the head and upper trunk, which started within 2 weeks of a hydroxyethylstarch (HES) infusion and was still present 2 years later. Histological examination demonstrated a striking dermal infiltrate of KP1-positive foamy macrophages which had electron-lucent vacuoles. OBJECTIVE: To study the association between high altitude and spontaneous preterm birth.
METHODS: Eleven placentas from cases of high altitude (3000 m) spontaneous preterm deliveries with no clinical predisposing cause were collected in Abha, a city of southern Saudi Arabia. We report a unique case of coexisting exogenous lipoid pneumonia, endogenous lipoid pneumonia (ELP), and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) in a 5-year-old patient with severe neurodevelopmental disease. Needle aspiration was performed on a breast mass in a 91-year-old woman. The cytologic features in the aspirate were a diffuse, prominent, intracytoplasmic vacuolization and secretion in malignant cells and occasional signet ring-like forms. We describe the clinical and morphologic features of JEB in a 4-mo-old domestic shorthair kitten and identify the underlying genetic variant. BACKGROUND: Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a disorder of renal acid-base regulation causing normal anion gap metabolic acidosis. Among its three types, distal RTA (dRTA) is the most common form.
METHODS: This retrospective case series included pregnancies complicated by RTA managed at Fernandez Hospital, Hyderabad, India, between 2008 and 2024. Maternal and perinatal outcomes data were obtained from medical records.

BACKGROUND: Whipple's disease is a chronic multisystemic infectious disease that rarely presents as culture-negative endocarditis. Most patients reported with Tropheryma whipplei endocarditis involve a native valve and few describe prosthetic valve disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: A patient with chronic polyarthritis and previous mitral valve replacement developed decompensated heart failure without fever. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed a prosthetic mitral valve vegetation and he underwent prosthetic mitral valve replacement. Blood and prosthetic mitral valve cultures were unrevealing.
