Adhesive Capsulitis in a Postmenopausal Woman With Thyroid Dysfunction.

Adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder, is characterized by progressive pain and loss of shoulder mobility due to capsular inflammation and fibrosis. This is a case of a 50‑year‑old postmenopausal woman with a history of Graves' disease treated by radio‑iodine ablation who presented with a year‑long history of gradually worsening left‑shoulder pain and stiffness. Imaging revealed mild acromioclavicular arthrosis and supraspinatus tendinosis without rotator cuff tear, findings consistent with adhesive capsulitis. Conservative management with physiotherapy, home exercise, and non‑ste

Postmenopausal complete hydatidiform mole: A case report.

Complete hydatidiform mole (CHM) cases occurring in the postmenopausal period are quite rare and may be delayed in diagnosis. In the present study, the case reported is of a 55-year-old postmenopausal woman (menopausal for 5 years) who presented with painless postmenopausal bleeding in March 2025, ongoing for ~1 month and was diagnosed with CHM. Transvaginal ultrasonography showed endometrial thickness of 28-mm and serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) level of 187,240 mIU/ml. After ultrasound-guided curettage, the diagnosis of CHM was confirmed in histopathological examination. Since t

Moroccan national guidelines for the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis.

This updated Moroccan guideline provides 17 expert recommendations for managing postmenopausal osteoporosis. Developed through a national consensus process, it aligns with international standards and includes a practical algorithm to support clinical decisions. It aims to improve diagnosis, fracture risk assessment, and treatment outcomes for women in routine care. These new recommendations update those published in 2007, in accordance with the most recent international guidelines. The initial framework and key thematic areas were defined by a national steering committee. The recommendations w

Postmenopausal Osteoporosis, Endothelial Dysfunction, and Cardiovascular Risk.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Bone and cardiovascular health are interconnected, yet their relationship with endothelial function in postmenopausal osteoporosis remains insufficiently understood. This study aimed to investigate, in women with osteoporosis, the associations between endothelial function, assessed by flow-mediated dilation (FMD), bone turnover, and cardiovascular disease risk. METHODS: This cohort study included consecutive postmenopausal osteoporosis outpatients from the Rheumatology Department of Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital, France. FMD was measured at the brachial artery an

Comprehensive profiling of gut microbiota in postmenopausal osteoporosis.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Osteoporosis is a multifactorial skeletal disease that predominantly affects postmenopausal women and is characterized by reduced bone mass and an increased risk of fractures. Growing evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in bone metabolism through immunological, endocrine, and metabolic pathways, forming the basis of the so-called gut-bone axis. This study aimed to characterize gut microbiota composition in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis compared with healthy controls. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty postmenopausal women aged 55-65 years were cla

Comparison of Denosumab and Bisphosphonates for Sarcopenia in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis.

Background: The objective of this study was to compare the effects of bisphosphonates and denosumab on sarcopenia-related parameters, contributing to a better understanding of osteosarcopenia management. Methods: This cross-sectional, comparative study assessed physical performance, muscle strength, muscle mass, and sarcopenia category in postmenopausal women aged 65 to 80 years with osteoporosis who were receiving either bisphosphonates or denosumab. Additional groups consisted of untreated osteoporotic patients and controls without osteoporosis (n = 50 per group). Muscle mass was assessed us

Romosozumab in postmenopausal women with classical Osteogenesis imperfecta.

UNLABELLED: This study explored whether Romosozumab, an anti-sclerostin antibody, can improve bone quality in women with Osteogenesis imperfecta. After 12 months, spinal areal bone mineral density increased, showing a beneficial treatment effect, although changes in hip bone density and bone structure were less pronounced than in women with severe osteoporosis. PURPOSE: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is the most common hereditary bone disorder, characterized by increased bone fragility and impaired bone quality, but pharmacological treatment is limited. Ongoing clinical trials investigate monoc

Approach to the patient: investigation of postmenopausal androgen excess.

Androgen excess in postmenopausal women presents a challenging clinical conundrum. A crucial component in management involves identification of the underlying etiology with a focus on detection of potentially malignant pathology or underlying genetic syndromes. A basic understanding of androgen physiology in women and the associated alterations during the menopausal transition is required to accurately risk stratify this cohort and streamline investigations. Over the course of this article, we will propose an approach to investigation and management of postmenopausal androgen excess that focus

Endometrial actinomycosis: a treatable cause of postmenopausal bleeding.

Postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) raises significant concern in women, as it may signal early uterine malignancy. Consequently, all episodes of PMB require thorough investigation. Approximately 60-80% of cases are linked to atrophic endometrium, with about 10% each attributable to endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma. However, one case involved a woman with PMB, where no definitive cause was identified beyond a forgotten intrauterine contraceptive device. Further evaluation revealed a rare uterine infection as the underlying cause of the PMB.

Cervical Adenofibroma: A Rare Cause for Postmenopausal Bleeding.

Adenofibroma of the cervix is an extremely rare benign Mullerian mixed tumor, which contains both benign epithelial and mesenchymal tissue. The WHO 2020 classification of the female genital tract does not even include adenofibroma as a separate entity. A postmenopausal lady in her mid-50s presented with bleeding per vagina. On examination, there were multiple cervical polyps. Histopathology of cervical polyps suggested adenofibroma of the cervix due to the absence of mitotic figures and cellular atypia. Sometimes even well-differentiated adenosarcomas can be misdiagnosed as adenofibroma. Immun

Profile and risk stratification for sarcopenia in postmenopausal women.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the risk factors associated with sarcopenia and identify risk profiles through cluster analysis in postmenopausal women treated at specialized outpatient clinics. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study evaluated data from 287 postmenopausal women. Sarcopenia was determined by handgrip and gait speed testing. Cluster analysis was applied to identify risk subgroups, and logistic regression to identify factors associated with sarcopenia. RESULTS: Sarcopenia was identified in 18.50% of women. Advanced age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.12; 95% confidence inter

Drugs against osteoporosis in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

The prevalence of osteoporosis will continue to rise as the world's population ages. Since women's bones are smaller and thinner than men's, bone loss accelerates as estrogen levels fall. Based on their primary effects, drugs used to treat osteoporosis can be categorized into three groups: 1. Anti-resorptive medications. These primarily prevent osteoclasts from resorbing bone, which has a secondary effect on bone growth. Commonly used anti-resorptive drugs include bisphosphonates, denosumab, hormone replacement therapy, and raloxifene. 2. Anabolic medicines. These mainly stimulate osteoblasts
