Adjunct Aripiprazole Reduces Prolactin and Prolactin-Related Adverse Effects in Premenopausal Women With Psychosis: Results From the DAAMSEL Clinical Trial.

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND: Prolactin-related adverse effects contribute to nonadherence and adverse health consequences, particularly in women with severe mental illness. Treating these adverse effects may improve treatment acceptability, adherence, and long-term outcomes. METHODS/PROCEDURES: Premenopausal women with a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder were recruited for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled 16-week trial of adjunct aripiprazole (5-15 mg/d). Adult Premenopausal Bone Health Related to Reproductive Characteristics-Population-Based Data from the Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMos).

Amenorrhea is important for women's bone health. However, few have reported reproductive, anthropometric (body mass index [BMI], height) and bone health (areal bone mineral density [BMD], prevalent fractures) in a population-based study. The purposes of this cross-sectional study of women in the randomly-selected Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMos) population were: (1) to describe reproductive, demographic, anthropometric and lifestyle variables; and (2) in menstruating women, to relate reproductive and other variables to BMD at the lumbar spine (L1-4, LS), femoral neck (FN) and to

Analysis of traditional and emerging risk factors in premenopausal women with coronary artery disease: A pilot-scale study from North India.

Premenopausal women are known to have less heart disease than their menopausal counterparts and men. However, there is a rising prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in premenopausal females, which necessitates determination of risk factors that negate the effects of hormonal protection. There are few studies describing the prevalence of traditional and emerging risk factors in premenopausal women with CAD. Thus, our objective was to explore the prevalence of traditional and emerging risk factors and features of coronary lesions in premenopausal women with CAD in an Indian population. Fo

Postoperative Quality of Life and Sexual Function in Premenopausal Women Undergoing Laparoscopic Myomectomy for Symptomatic Fibroids: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign gynecologic tumors. To date laparoscopy myomectomy is the gold standard for treatment of symptomatic fibroids in reproductive-aged women. Detailed counseling about the effects of this procedure on postoperative sexuality and quality of life is important in these patients. However, available data on these subjects are limited and contradictory. The aim of this study was to assess sexual function and quality of life in premenopausal women undergoing laparoscopic myomectomy for symptomatic uterine fibroids. MATERIAL AND METHODS: All pre

Adjuvant tamoxifen-induced mammographic breast density reduction as a predictor for recurrence in estrogen receptor-positive premenopausal breast cancer patients.

Tamoxifen is known to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk and also reduces mammographic breast density (MD) in a preventive setting. We investigated the efficacy of MD reduction (MDR) for predicting recurrence in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive patients in an adjuvant setting. A total of 1,066 ER-positive breast cancer patients who were enrolled in this study underwent curative surgery and received adjuvant tamoxifen for at least 2 years at our institution between January 2003 and December 2008. Using a computerized system, a single radiologist reviewed all mammograms and cl

The relationships among stress, coping, social support, and weight class in premenopausal African American women at risk for coronary heart disease.

The purpose of this study was to determine the nature of the relationships among stress, coping, social support, and weight class in premenopausal African American women as risk factors for coronary heart disease. Overweight and obesity are significant problems for African American women who are at an increased risk of weight-related diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Of these women, those who are premenopausal have a significantly higher coronary heart disease mortality rate than their white counterparts. There are gaps in current knowledge concernin

Patterns of weight and body composition change in premenopausal women with early stage breast cancer: has weight gain been overestimated?

The widely documented problem of weight gain during adjuvant breast cancer chemotherapy has decreased in frequency and magnitude. However, adverse changes in body composition remain a problem. This study identified the frequency, magnitude, and patterns of weight and body composition change in a sample of premenopausal breast cancer survivors who were receiving 3 common chemotherapy regimens. The longitudinal study followed 76 women at 2 centers in Ontario, Canada. Measures were obtained at baseline, the start of every other treatment cycle and treatment completion. Participants' mean age was

Understanding the patient journey: Barriers, facilitators, and expectations in joining a chemotherapy de-escalation trial among premenopausal patients with breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: De-escalation trials aim to balance clinical outcomes and quality of life (QoL), especially for premenopausal women with early breast cancer (BC), who often experience a greater treatment burden affecting their physical and psychosocial well-being. We sought to understand their patient journey-barriers, facilitators, and expectations-when joining de-escalation trials to inform patient-centered design and implementation. METHODS: OPTIMA-YOUNG, an EU-co-funded international trial, investigates a genomic assay-guided approach to de-escalate chemotherapy in premenopausal patients with

Prognostic factors and the role of GnRHa in premenopausal HR+/HER2+ breast cancer achieving pathologic complete response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer who achieve a pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) generally have favorable outcomes. However, in the hormone receptor-positive/HER2-positive (HR+/HER2+) subtype, prognostic heterogeneity may persist even after pCR. In particular, the role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) for ovarian function suppression in premenopausal patients remains unclear. We aimed to identify prognostic factors and evaluate the clinical impact of GnRHa in this population.

Association of Composite Metabolic Indices and Oxidative Stress Biomarkers with Coronary Atherosclerosis Detected by CT Angiography in Premenopausal Women with Metabolic Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasingly prevalent among premenopausal women and is associated with a higher risk of subclinical atherosclerosis. This study investigated whether composite metabolic indices are more strongly associated than conventional metabolic markers with subclinical coronary artery disease (CAD) detected by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). The potential contribution of oxidative stress markers to early atherosclerosis risk assessment was also evaluated in premenopausal Iranian women. METHODS: In this cross-sectional case-control study, 101 wom

Three-monthly gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist for ovarian function suppression in premenopausal breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Ovarian function suppression (OFS) with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) improves outcomes in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR +) breast cancer (BC), most commonly using monthly administration. The potential equivalence of 3-monthly (3 M) versus monthly (1 M) schedules has been suggested but remains uncertain. METHODS: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of interventional studies comparing 3 M and 1 M GnRHa regimens in premenopausal women with HR + BC receiving endocrine therapy. Outcomes included ovarian escape (OE), mean estradiol

Clinicopathologic and Immunologic Features of Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus and Related Neoplasia: A Comparative Study of Precursor Lesions and VSCC in Premenopausal and Postmenopausal Patients.

Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the vulva. Although LS is thought to arise from autoimmune mechanisms, it is unclear whether disease drivers differ by menopausal status-an important distinction given its potential progression to differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (dVIN) and vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). We performed a retrospective review of 182 biopsy-proven LS cases (2020-2025), stratified by menopause status. In addition, we examined 27 VSCC cases for PD-L1 staining to assess immune modulation and potential therapeutic relevance. Premenopau

Efficacy and safety of goserelin vs. leuprolide in premenopausal breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy: A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Goserelin and leuprolide are gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists used for ovarian function suppression in premenopausal breast cancer patients. Whether their different molecular structures lead to clinically meaningful differences in efficacy and safety remains unclear. OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy and safety of goserelin versus leuprolide as adjuvant endocrine therapy (combined with tamoxifen) in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer after curative surgery. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study initially recruited 215 young cance

The clinical value of clinical treatment score post-5 years in patients with premenopausal breast cancer: a retrospective analysis of ASTRRA trial.

BACKGROUND: The Clinical Treatment Score post-5 years (CTS5), a prognostic tool for late distant recurrence, was validated in postmenopausal patients, but its value in premenopausal women remains unclear. Using 8-year ASTRRA data, we evaluated the prognostic performance of CTS5 in premenopausal breast cancer patients. METHODS: Patients without any event within the first 5 years were included in this analysis and were categorized into three risk groups based on CTS5 cutoff values. Late distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) and overall survival were analyzed. Subgroup analyses were conducted

The hypothalamic estrogen receptor α pathway is involved in high-intensity interval training-induced visceral fat loss in premenopausal rats.

BACKGROUND: Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is strongly associated with metabolic diseases. Both high-intensity interval training (HIT) and moderate-intensity training (MIT) reduce VAT effectively; however, HIT might mediate greater VAT loss in females. The estrogen receptor α (ERα) pathway may play a key role. The aim of the present study was to confirm the role of adipose/hypothalamic ERα in HIT/MIT-mediated VAT loss, as well as the associated hypothalamic electrophysiology and body catabolism changes in pre- and post-menopausal animal models. METHODS: Ovariectomy (OVX) or sham surgeries were
