The outflow of viscous incompressible fluid from catheter holes into a small gap between the catheter and surrounding elastic tube is considered. Initially, the catheter is inserted into the tube lumen in such a manner that a considerable tube wall prestress exists. An additional longitudinally non-uniform external load is applied to the outer tube surface. The procedure of measuring the urethral "pressure profile" is discussed. It is shown that there is no easy way for extracting the external load (muscle forces in reality) from the measured pressure.

Intracranial pressure (ICP) is derived from cerebral blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulatory dynamics and can be affected in the course of many diseases of the central nervous system. The mean rupture pressure of the porcine tympanic membrane (TM) was measured in 9 specimens. Pressure was delivered gradually into the external ear canal of an excised piece of temporal bone, via a syringe and polyurethane tubing attached to the canal. Riva-Rocci Korotkoff (RRK) blood pressure measurements may overestimate the intra-arterial pressure (IAP) in individual patients. Domperidone, a dopamine antagonist was found to delay the intraocular pressure (IOP) recovery in rabbit eyes after infusion with hypertonic saline and to lower the IOP of normal cat eyes, indicating that domperidone is an ocular hypotensive agent. It did not affect cardiac function significantly but produced potent inhibition of bronchial muscle tone. It improved the blood flow to eye tissues including choroid, ciliary body and retina. These results suggest that domperidone could be used to treat glaucoma without producing cardiovascular disturbances and/or asthmatic attacks.

In human volunteers, firm pressure was applied to deformable plastic chambers containing chemical irritants, glass fibers, and selected allergens to which the subjects were sensitive. Pressure variably intensified irritant dermatitis and strikingly enhanced fiberglass dermatitis. Pressure did not influence allergic contact dermatitis. Pressure is one of several mechanical factors that can aggravate nonallergic contact dermatitis.

A series of 40 patients with the syndrome of normal-pressure hydrocephalus is presented. Diagnosis was based on clinical and computerized tomography (CT) scan criteria and was followed by the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt in every instance.
