Creating an antiracist psychology by addressing professional complicity in psychological assessment.

The acceptance of racist practices in psychological assessment, like the use of racist stimuli in testing material, has gone unchallenged for far too long. Such practices are emblematic of the entrenched systems of structural racism and pernicious presence of anti-Black oppression within psychology and beyond. This article brings into focus one glaring example: the inclusion of a noose as an item in one of the most widely used standardized tests in neuropsychology-the Boston Naming Test. The deeply offensive nature of this item has gone publicly unaddressed in the psychological literature for

Deliver Cardiac Virtual Care: A Primer for Cardiovascular Professionals in Canada.

The COVID-19 pandemic, with its need for distancing, has necessitated the use of virtual care in never-before-seen volumes. This review article aims to provide a primer on virtual care for cardiovascular professionals in Canada. The technology to facilitate remote patient interactions is already available, but barriers exist. Adequate and effective cardiac virtual care must be further developed given the need for rapid evaluation and close ongoing follow-up of patients, as seen in the areas of management of heart failure, cardiac rehabilitation, electrophysiology, and hypertension. Many Canadi

Postural Control and Functional Ankle Stability in Professional and Amateur Skateboarders.

Basic maneuvers in skateboarding, such as the ollie, put the player at high risk for ankle injuries because of the position of the feet required to perform the maneuvers. This study investigated ankle stability and reaction time for the tibialis anterior, fibularis longus, and fibularis brevis in professional and amateur skateboarders. In total, 16 professional and 16 amateur skateboarders were recruited as participants and underwent range of motion assessments, balance testing, and muscle reaction time measurements. The results revealed that professional skateboarders had a significantly smal

Oculomotor Behavior Predict Professional Cricket Batting and Bowling Performance.

Importance: A new, shorter version of cricket was introduced recently (Twenty20; T20). Since its inception, T20 cricket has rapidly become a popular and exciting format of cricket. However, there is little understanding of factors such as visual-motor control that influence expert performance. Objective: The purpose of this project is to determine if a series of oculomotor measures can predict batting and bowling performance in professional cricket players. Design: This study used a cross-sectional design. Each participant took part in a suite of eye-tracking tests to measure oculomotor behavi

COVID-19: risk of ocular transmission in health care professionals.

INTRODUCTION: The current pandemic of severe acute respiratory symptom coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has had a major impact on individuals' lives. Social isolation and the use of personal protective equipment - the latter being especially important for health care workers - emerged as two of the main methods of preventing the spread of the disease. The eye can represent a source of transmission through contaminated tears, as well as a source of infection for respiratory droplets or aerosol particles, which may come into contact with the ocular surface and migrate to the lungs and other parts of t

[Oral graft-versus-host-disease: implications for dental professionals].

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a serious complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transpl antation, which frequently affects the mouth. GVHD is the result of an immunological attack of donor-derived cells against the tissue of patients. Chronic oral GVHD can affect the mucosa and/or damage salivary glands and can cause sclerotic changes to the head and neck area. Patients can experience painful oral and gingival mucosa, dry mouth, taste changes and limited mouth opening. Due to painful mucosa and salivary glands, and limited mouth opening, performing oral hygiene and dental i

Objective: We aimed to explore patient's and health professional's perspectives of FM in PD. Methods: A focus group methodology has been used. Four focus groups, with a total of 10 patients and 10 health professionals, were performed. Si

Discharge policies for homeless people and immigrants: Compromising professional ethics.

Discharging a homeless patient from hospital raises ethical issues which are compounded when the patient is from outside the United Kingdom. This article begins with an extended case study of a 30-year-old homeless man from Lithuania describing his complex medical and social needs. It is best practice for all homeless patients to have their housing needs planned for prior to discharge, but this is made more difficult by the United Kingdom's 'hostile environment' policy which creates a subclass of homeless people who are not eligible for support. This means healthcare professionals discharge pa
