We report two cases of post partum right ovarian vein thrombophlebitis: The aspect of the C.T. is presented, specifying the anatomic relations of the right ovarian vein. The C.T. progression under treatment is illustrated in one case by the appearance of a vena cava thrombosis and in another by a return to normal. The possibility of other examinations is discussed. Correct knowledge of these C.T. findings should allow a diagnosis and a treatment without invasive procedures.

Postpartum anorectal disease often complicates an otherwise normal and pleasant delivery. The obstetrician must relieve severe symptoms in patients who otherwise could leave the hospital. One hundred nineteen patients with severe hemorrhoidal symptoms or painful anal fissures were treated by anal dilatation. This therapy relieved the symptoms in all patients without extended hospitalization and did not expose nursing mothers to anesthesia or narcotic medication. The long-term effects were excellent; there was only 1 recurrence of hemorrhoidal symptoms after 3 years of follow-up.

The results of a prospective study of 34 Nigerian women with obstetric neuropraxia (puerperal paresis of the lower limbs) seen at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, are presented. The height of 29 (84%) was under 62 in (1.58 m). All were younger than 45, and 41% (14) were primiparous. The authors reviewed 158 cases of endometritis complicating vaginal delivery. The diagnostic criteria included fever over 100F with uterine tenderness and/or foul lochia. The mean temperature at diagnosis was 102.2F, and only 21 (13%) had temperature less than 100.9F. The majority of patients did not have traditional risk factors. 140 women who had received peridural anaesthesia (PDA) during childbirth at the University Gynaecological Hospital, Basel, in 1977, were retrospectively questioned on the occurrence of backache and headache during the puerperium subsequent to peridural anaesthesia. The "matched pairs" technique was employed for the controls. The authors examined data of 160 cases of puerperal curettage. The histological examination proved placental residue in 15,61 per cent, decidual residue in 65,61 per cent of the patients. A woman with Staphylococcus aureus meningitis following postpartum endometritis presented with lumbar backache and fever of several weeks' duration.
