2,6-Dimethyl-4-quinolinecarboxylic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester: a fluorogenic hydrophilic derivatizing reagent for liquid chromatographic analysis of aliphatic amines.

The use of a fluorogenic, hydrophilic, and amine-reactive reagent, 2,6-dimethyl-4-quinolinecarboxylic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester (DMQC-OSu) has been investigated in the procolumn derivatization for the LC separation of aliphatic amines. In pH 8.0 aqueous medium, DMQC-OSu reacted with amines at 50 degrees C within 20 min to form highly fluorescent carboxamides and the excess reagent hydrolyzed to the corresponding carboxylic acid. The separation of representative amine derivatives with DMQC-OSu has been performed using a C18 column with the fluorescence detection at 326/409 nm. The detecti

Silane-modified cellulose molecularly imprinted microspheres as solid-phase extraction sorbents for selective camptothecin isolation from Camptotheca acuminata crude extracts.

Camptothecin (CPT), a potent anticancer quinoline alkaloid derived from plant resources, is conventionally purified through multi-step processes with low selectivity, high solvent consumption and unsatisfactory recovery. In this study, a novel bio-based surface-imprinted adsorbent (CCS-Si&MIP-CPT) was rationally designed and fabricated using porous cellulose-silica hybrid microspheres as the support matrix, with CPT as the template molecule and methacrylic acid as the functional monomer. The physicochemical structure of the as-prepared material was fully characterized, and its adsorption kinet

A rapid and scalable microwave-assisted strategy for the synthesis of neocryptolepine and its analogues: Comprehensive bioactivity profiling.

A rapid synthesis of neocryptolepine and its analogues have been developed using 2-Bromo-1H-indole-3-carbaldehydes and N-methylanilines as starting materials under microwave irradiation. A total of 14 different 5-methyl-5H-indolo[2,3-b]quinoline derivatives containing 7 novel analogues of neocryptolepine have been synthesized. The method has also been used for gram-scale (1.03 g) synthesis of neocryptolepine starting from 1.02 g of Bromoindolecarbaldehyde. The synthesized compounds were evaluated in vitro for their antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities. The

Major Depressive Disorder Signatures: A Review of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Powered Insights Into Gut Dysbiosis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a highly common neuropsychiatric disorder globally. A variety of factors contribute to the neuropathology of MDD. Microbiome research in neuropsychiatric disorders such as MDD has recently attracted attention. Indeed, the gut-brain axis could influence the course of MDD through metabolites such as Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), Quinolinate, and other factors. Such metabolites may modulate the balance of excitatory and inhibitory signals. Moreover, MDD features abundant hyperinflammatory bacteria, whereas anti-inflammatory butyrate-synthe

Co-conversion of CO2 and refractory organics into bioplastics through a stable biocarrier.

An attractive solution to traditional plastics is scaling up the microbial system to produce bioplastics like polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). Herein, we developed a dynamic microbial ecosystem on porous biocarrier for conversion of refractory organics to bioplastics. biocarriers of 25 mm sized were packed in a 5 L bioreactor and operated for 200 days, to achieve stable performance for commercial applications. Reaching to bioreactor stability, microbial ecosystem utilized quinoline (5.2 kg/m3/day) for carbon & nitrogen metabolism, phenol (4.5 kg/m3/day) to trigger synthesis of PHAs, pyridines (4.

New spectrophotometric and smartphone-based colorimetric methods for determination of atenolol in pharmaceutical formulations.

Novel spectrophotometric and smartphone-based colorimetric methods were developed and validated for the estimation of atenolol (ATE) in pharmaceutical formulations. The measurement procedure is based on the de-diazotization reaction, in which ATE is able to inhibit the diazotized sulfanilic acid from reacting with 8-hydroxy quinoline (8-HQ) in a basic medium. As a result, the formation of red-orange color azo-dye is hindered, and the color intensity is decreased proportionally to concentration of ATE. In spectrophotometric method the azo-dye color fate was monitored at 495 nm. While in smartph

Design and Synthesis of Highly Active Antimycobacterial Mutual Esters of 2-(2-Isonicotinoylhydrazineylidene)propanoic Acid.

The combination of two active scaffolds into one molecule represents a proven approach in drug design to overcome microbial drug resistance. We designed and synthesized more lipophilic esters of 2-(2-isonicotinoylhydrazineylidene)propanoic acid, obtained from antitubercular drug isoniazid, with various alcohols, phenols and thiols, including several drugs, using carbodiimide-mediated coupling. Nineteen new esters were evaluated as potential antimycobacterial agents against drug-sensitive Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb.) H37Rv, Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium kansasii. Mefloquine use, psychosis, and violence: a retinoid toxicity hypothesis.

Mefloquine use has been linked to severe gastrointestinal and neuropsychiatric adverse effects, including cognitive disturbances, anxiety, depression, psychosis, and violence. The adverse effects of the drug are thought to result from the secondary consequences of hepatocellular injury; in fact, mefloquine is known to cause a transient, anicteric chemical hepatitis. However, the mechanism of mefloquine-associated liver damage and the associated neuropsychiatric and behavioral effects of the drug are not well understood. Mefloquine and other 8-amino-quinolines are the only antimalarial drugs th

NAD(P)H oxidase contributes to neurotoxicity in an excitotoxic/prooxidant model of Huntington's disease in rats: protective role of apocynin.

Intrastriatal injection of quinolinic acid (QUIN) to rodents reproduces some biochemical, morphological, and behavioral characteristics of Huntington's disease. NAD(P)H oxidase is an enzymatic complex that catalyzes superoxide anion (O(2).(-)) production from O(2) and NADPH. The present study evaluated the role of NAD(P)H oxidase in the striatal damage induced by QUIN (240 nmol/microl) in adult male Wistar rats by means of apocynin (APO; 5 mg/kg i.p.), a specific NAD(P)H oxidase inhibitor. Rats were given APO 30 min before and 1 hr after QUIN injection or only 30 min after QUIN injection. NAD(…

Changes in expression of delta FosB and the Fos family proteins following NMDA receptor activation in the rat striatum.

Receptor-induced expression of transcription factors of the activator protein-1 (AP-1) family in neurons occurs in a unique temporal pattern which regulates subsequent downstream gene expression. We investigated the expression of the Fos family proteins following injection of the NMDA receptor agonist quinolinic acid (QA) into the rat striatum. The c-Fos protein is rapidly and transiently expressed, followed by the sequential and overlapping expression in the same striatal neurons of FosB, from 4 to 8 h post-lesion and delta FosB from 6 h to beyond 30 h post-lesion. Analysis confirms that mRNA…
