Lumbar spine synovial cysts are benign growths adjoining the facet joints that may induce low back pain, lumbar radiculopathy and neurological deficit. However, they are not well defined concerning their origin, cause and pathology, as well as available treatment strategies. The scope of different surgical procedures includes image-guided epidural steroid injection, direct cyst puncture by percutaneous epidural needle, spinal canal decompression and cyst resection, and spinal bone fusion with/without instrumentation. Hereby, we report institutional experience and discuss surgical strategies of

The ultimate aim of endodontic treatment is to encourage the healing of apical periodontitis, or to prevent it from occurring if it was not present prior to treatment. Apical periodontitis is a general term used to describe an inflammatory response to irritation caused by the contents of a root canal system and it has several distinct forms. The most common is a granuloma but this can develop into other disease entities such as an abscess, a periapical pocket cyst or a true cyst, all of which present as radiolucencies. However, periapical radiolucencies may also be caused by extra-radicular in

This article presents four examples of odontogenic keratocysts which appeared radiographically as periapical cysts. This unusual presentation of odontogenic keratocysts is discussed, and its significance for the clinician is reviewed. This article emphasizes the need for microscopic examination of all material surgically removed from the periapical region.

A new entity called "peri-implant cyst" has recently been described. This lesion is an inflammatory odontogenic cyst on an osseointegrated implant. It arises from inflammatory stimulation and proliferation of the rests of Malassez. Although a relatively rare condition but potentially the cause of implant failure. Peri- implant cystic lesion exhibits the same radiographic and histopathological features as the radicular cyst. The diagnosis rests on the histology, radiology, and on their correlation with clinical features, in particular the location of the lesion. Herein, we report a case of a 58…

INTRODUCTION: Asymptomatic cysts of the sacral nerve roots display a prevalence of 5 % and are occasionally demonstrated by MRI of the spine. Depending on their size and localization, arachnoid cysts may cause sacral or perineal pain, radicular sensomotory symptoms and neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction by compression of the nerve roots.
CASE REPORT: We report on a case of a recently developed neurogenic bladder dysfunction. MRI of the spine demonstrated two large, liquor-filled cysts of 2.5 and 3 cm diameter, bilaterally localized at the nerve roots S2/3. Neurological and urological ex

BACKGROUND: The destruction of tooth apical bone mainly comes from odontogenic apical cysts caused by pulp necrosis, chronic inflammation, or trauma. Some affected teeth can be cured by modern root canal treatment or non-surgical retreatment, but some affected teeth do not heal after treatment. Apical surgery should be considered when root canal therapy has failed, root canal retreatment through the crown channel is difficult, or true cysts are present. This article explores the use of microapical surgery to treat a periapical cyst caused by apical ramification, emphasizing a minimal surgical

INTRODUCTION: Bone loss is strongly associated with the immunologic milieu in apical periodontitis (AP). Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) … ic evaluation. TLSs, composed of B-cell and T-cell clusters, developed in periapical granulomas and radicular cysts. The CXC-chemokine ligand 13, its receptor CXC-chemokine receptor 5, follicular dendritic cells, and high endothelial venules were localized in TLSs. The quantity and size of TLSs were positively associated with bone loss in AP. Moreover, proinflam …

Cystic and cyst-like lesions of the jaw are a recurrent finding in routine dental radiography but not in paleopathology. This paper describe … nfection in the pulp is consistent with an odontogenic condition of inflammatory origin, probably a radicular cyst.

This case demonstrates the conservative treatment of a large apical radiolucent lesion over a period of one year. It is surmised that a dental cyst was present and that resolution was brought about by the use of calcium hydroxide combined with frequent drainage through the root canal.

A total of 149 periapical lesions were classified histologically into cysts, granulomas and other lesions. It was found that 53% were cysts, 39% were granulomas and 8% were other lesions. Of the 149 periapical lesions classified, 69 selected cases of cysts and granulomas were obtained and radiographic measurements of area (mm2), largest diameter (mm) and largest root-to-border distance (mm) were recorded. It was found that there is an apparent increase in cystic prevalence with an increase in the area, largest diameter or largest length of the periapical lesions radiographically. A cystic prev
