Quiditene-(qunuclidyl-3)-di-(thyenel-2)carbinole hydrochloride was studied by using various experimental models. The agent was compared with H2-blockers. When gastrically used, quiditene in doses of 5-50 mg/kg dose-dependently decreased gastric acid secretion and prevented acute gastric mucosal lesions. As cimetidine and ranitidine, the agent accelerated chronic gastric ulcer healing. Quiditene has been allowed for clinical studies in Russia.

The object of this study was to value the efficacy of reflux oesophagitis treatment by H2-blockers. Fifty-one patients were treated by Cimetidine or Ranitidine. After three months, we note a clinical improvement in 84% of cases and a regression of the endoscopic lesions in 61% of cases. A long term overlooking shows a high number of recurrences when the treatment is stopped, whereas the chronic treatment has essentially a stabilizing effect on the lesions.

We have studied 51 consecutive patients bleeding from peptic ulcer which was duodenal (D.U.) in 30, gastric in 17 (G.U.), anastomotic in 3 (Billroth 2), and oesophageal in 1 of them. One patient with G.U. was sent for surgery and 2 patients with D.U. died early; the others recovered through medical treatment and the ulcer healed after 6-8 weeks of treatment with ranitidine in 46 out of 48 patients. A series of histamine H2-receptor antagonists were tested for their activity on the isolated lower esophageal sphincter (LES) of the rat. We report a 68-year-old woman with a history of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, who had immediate skin reactions associated with the use of pirfenidone in two opportunities. In the evaluation by immunology, an allergy to pirfenidone was diagnosed. Given the urgent need for the drug, a desensitization procedure was started. The dose of the medication was increased progressively, previous premedication with cetirizine, ranitidine and montelukast. After this procedure the patient was able to tolerate the treatment with pirfenidone without cutaneous reactions.
