OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of eye exercises in preventing and controlling myopia.
METHODS: We searched studies on eye exercises from nine Chinese and English databases from their inception to December 15, 2022. Using random-effect models and sensitivity/subgroup analyses, we estimated the effects of eye exercises compared to control on changes in three measures: visual acuity, refractive error (both quantified using standardized mean differences, SMDs), and protective/mitigating effects (assessed through risk ratios, RRs).

UNLABELLED: Pterygium is among the most frequent indications for extraocular ophthalmic surgery. The main method of pterygium treatment - its excision - is often combined with transplantation, non-transplantation, medication and other methods. However, the frequency of pterygium recurrence can exceed 35%, and the cosmetic and refraction outcomes satisfy neither the patient, nor the surgeon.

It is well known that, in most eyes, astigmatism increases with the field angle. Seventeen per cent of 216 cases of simple congenital ptosis developed amblyopia and 19% had a squint. Of those patients with amblyopia, 14% had amblyopia attributable to stimulus deprivation, 21% had anisometropic amblyopia and 51% had strabismic amblyopia. Early refraction, orthoptic assessment and treatment and, where the pupillary axis is occluded, surgery to prevent stimulus deprivation amblyopia are recommended.
