OBJECTIVE: To profile inpatients and eye problems evaluated and managed by the Ophthalmology Consultation Service of a large university teaching hospital.
DESIGN: A hospital-based retrospective, cross-sectional study.
PARTICIPANTS: One thousand four hundred seventy-two patients admitted to the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center.
METHODS: We reviewed the inpatient medical records, discharge summaries, and Ophthalmology Consultation Service notes of every patient evaluated by the Service from July 1990 through January 1997.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the astigmatic outcomes of wavefront-guided sub-Bowman keratomileusis (WFG-SBK) for low to moderate myopic astigmatism.
METHODS: This study enrolled 100 right eyes from 100 patients who underwent WFG-SBK for the correction of myopia and astigmatism. The polar value method was performed with anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism measured with Scheimpflug camera combined with Placido corneal topography (Sirius, CSO) and refractive astigmatism preoperatively and 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively.

BACKGROUND: Refractive surgery is gaining widespread popularity; however, there remains a limited understanding of the knowledge and attitudes of myopes regarding these procedures.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the knowledge and attitudes of myopes or their guardians towards refractive surgery.

We present a series of 5 consecutive cases in which a small-aperture corneal inlay (Kamra ACI7000PDT) was uneventfully implanted in a corneal pocket created at a depth between 200 μm and 250 μm. Three months after surgery, all patients had good visual results, normal corneal surfaces, and adequate stromal healing. Between 6 months and 19 months after surgery, visually significant refractive changes appeared in the form of a hyperopic shift in 4 cases and a myopic shift in 1 case. PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to assess the functional results and morphological parameters in children surgically treated for glaucoma.
METHODS: Data from 43 patients and 68 eyes who were operated in our department between 1990 and 2002 were collected. This retrospective trial included primary congenital glaucoma (n=36), and secondary glaucoma (n=7) in Rieger-Axenfeld syndrome and Sturge Weber syndrome.
