A rare case of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor developing in maxillary sinus of an old patient.

Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) family of tumors is an uncommon group of malignant neoplasms that may present in both skeletal and extraskeletal sites. PNET outside the central nervous system is called peripheral PNET (pPNET) developing from migrating embryonal cells of the neural crest. Very few cases of pPNET of the maxilla are reported in English literature. These tumors may be difficult to diagnose due to their primitive morphology. These tumors occur predominantly in infancy or early childhood. The occurrence of extraskeletal ES/PNET in the maxillary sinus in an

Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors of the maxillary sinus: a case report of multidisciplinary examination enabling prompt diagnosis.

There have been approximately 10 reports in English literature of cases of Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (EFT) arising in the maxillary sinus. In this location, some tumors mimic EFT, and are more frequently encountered. Herein, we present an additional case of an EFT originating in the maxillary sinus. The patient was a 15-year-old boy complaining of a non-tender swelling of the left cheek. Laboratory tests showed no abnormalities. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass centered in the maxillary sinus with degeneration of the surrounding bones. Pathological exam

MiR-125b inhibits cell biological progression of Ewing's sarcoma by suppressing the PI3K/Akt signalling pathway.

OBJECTIVES: Increasing evidence has suggested the close relationship between microRNAs (miRNAs) dysregulation and the carcinogenesis of Ewing's sarcoma (ES), among of which miR-125b has been reported to be decreased in ES tissues recently. Strikingly, ectopic expression of miR-125b could suppress cell proliferation of ES cell line A673, suggesting the tumor suppressor role of miR-125b in ES. However, the other accurate mechanistic functions and relative molecule mechanisms are largely unknown. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Herein, we completed a series of experiments to investigate the role of miR-1

Primary dumbbell-shaped Ewing's sarcoma of the cervical vertebra in adults: Four case reports and literature review.

Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. The 4 cases described in this study were diagnosed with dumbbell-shaped intraspinal and extraspinal Ewing's sarcomas. The incidence of dumbbell-shaped tumors of this type in the spine is 17.5%. These tumors are often misdiagnosed as neurogenic tumors (schwannoma, neurofibromatosis) or giant cell tumors based on imaging. Radiculopathy is more common than spinal cord compression in Ewing's sarcoma. Preoperative biopsy is strongly recommended. As soon as Ewing's sarcoma is diagnosed by pathology, the treat

Impact of whole-body MRI and FDG-PET on staging and assessment of therapy response in a patient with Ewing sarcoma.

In patients with Ewing sarcoma, precise staging is not only crucial for the therapeutic regimen but also for a reliable evaluation of response to therapy. We report on a 15-year-old girl with metastatic spread of a Ewing sarcoma who, apart from conventional staging by bone scan, chest X-ray and CT, was subsidiary examined by FDG-PET and whole-body MRI before and after chemotherapy. Both modalities detected more bone lesions than the bone scan, which led to an altered strategy for radiotherapy. Both examinations might be a great asset to stage-adjusted therapy regimens, ultimately influencing p

Primary cutaneous pre-B lymphoblastic lymphoma immunohistologically mimics Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor.

Precursor B-cell lymphoblastic lymphomas (B-LBLs) are rare and most often involve the skin in the head and neck region. Histologically, cutaneous B-LBLs may be confused with other small round-cell neoplasms. Moreover, half of B-LBL patients are negative for CD45 (leucocyte common antigen, LCA), a widely used marker for the diagnosis of lymphoma, and a significant portion express CD99, a marker for Ewing's sarcoma (ES) or primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET). Therefore, an extranodal B-LBL may be misinterpreted as PNET or ES. Here, we report on 2 boys, aged 10 and 5 years, with primary cutane

Ewings sarcoma as an etiology for persistent back pain in a 17-year-old girl after trauma to the back.

Back pain--a common complaint familiar to all physicians--can be either a manifestation of musculoskeletal dysfunction or a symptom of a more serious underlying disease. Unfortunately, the diagnosis can be difficult, and back pain that is not resolved by conservative treatment requires aggressive investigation. The author presents the case history of a 17-year-old patient whose back pain had been extensively evaluated by a series of specialists to no avail until further workup revealed the problem to be Ewing's sarcoma. The steps required to diagnose elusive back pain are presented, together w

Interval-compressed chemotherapy in patients with Ewing's sarcoma: report on feasibility and toxicity from a North African center.

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is the second most common malignant bone tumor in patients under 20 years of age. The "Euro-Ewing 2012" trial established induction therapy with the 2-week-interval VDC/IE (Vincristine-Doxorubicine-Cyclophosphamide/Ifosfamide-Etoposide) as the standard of care. However, real-world data remain limited. We aimed to determine the feasibility, tolerance, and effectiveness of this protocol. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, single-institutional cohort study, including patients with ES treated between January 2018 and April 2024 using the interval-compressed VD

A young patient with lower limb Ewing's sarcoma experienced a cerebral infarction: A care-compliant case report.

RATIONALE: Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a rare bone tumor that most often occurs in adolescents and young adults and is a malignant tumor that mainly affects, bones and soft tissues.[1] Trousseau syndrome refers to a series of blood clot events in veins and arteries that occur during malignant tumor progression due to problems with blood clotting and breakdown. It includes clinical manifestations such as pulmonary embolism, arterial thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis, and nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis. Acute cerebral infarction can also occur as part of Trousseau's syndrome. Due to the rarity of

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma presenting as a mediastinal mass with vena cava superior syndrome: A rare case report.

INTRODUCTION: Extraskeletal Ewing's Sarcoma is a rare entity of sarcoma that develops rapidly within soft tissue in any anatomic region, and the symptoms depend on its location. CASE PRESENTATION: The X-ray examination of a 28-year-old man with shortness of breath, cough, weight loss, and chest pain showed malignant round cell, in which confirmed by immunohistochemical examination. The examination indicated positive Vimentin findings in the cytoplasm and positive FLI-1 in the nuclei of the tumour cells. The diagnosis was consistent with extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma. The patient submitted to

Primary Ewing's Sarcoma of Body of Mandible, Multimodal Treatment with Excellent Spontaneous Bone Regeneration: a Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) sound planning is required as interest increases in the decentralization of healthcare financing and the implementation of a sector-wide approach to health care. For this, improved knowledge of national morbidity and mortality is essential. Data from remote areas of SSA are needed to ensure that public health priority-setting and actions reflect the situation in all regions, not just those easily accessed and readily researched. In order to understand the causes, circumstances and changes over time of death in a remote and underserved region, this stud

NUT carcinoma of the nasal cavity that responded to a chemotherapy regimen for Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma (NC) is a rare epithelial malignancy characterized by rearrangement of the NUT gene on chromosome 15. If NC is not suspected, it is often diagnosed as other malignancies. We present the case of NC of the nasal cavity that responded to a chemotherapy regimen for Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT). CASE PRESENTATION: A 49-year-old male presented with epistaxis and pain in the left eye. The patient had a tumor in the left nasal cavity at initial visit and it was biopsied. Firstly, the man was diagnosed with ESFT based on a histopathologi

Primary orbital Ewing's sarcoma presenting with local recurrence to maxillary sinus shortly after tumor resection.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a malignant, small-round-cell neoplasm that normally affects the long bones of the limbs or the pelvis. Primary orbital ES of the skull has been considered extremely rare. We describe the case of a 19-year-old female patient with primary ES originating from the inferior orbital rime and, shortly after tumor resection, local recurrence to the maxillary sinus.

G-Protein coupled receptor 64 promotes invasiveness and metastasis in Ewing sarcomas through PGF and MMP1.

Metastatic spread in Ewing sarcomas (ES) is frequent and haematogenous. G-protein coupled receptor 64 (GPR64), an orphan receptor with normal expression restricted to human epididymis is specifically over-expressed in ES among sarcoma, but also up-regulated in a number of carcinomas derived from prostate, kidney or lung. Inhibition of GPR64 expression in ES by RNA interference impaired colony formation in vitro and suppressed local tumour growth and metastasis in Rag2(-/-) γC (-/-) mice. Microarray analysis after GPR64 knock down revealed a GPR64-mediated repression of genes involved in neuron

Loss of connexin43 expression in Ewing's sarcoma cells favors the development of the primary tumor and the associated bone osteolysis.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a primary bone tumor characterized by a chromosomic translocation between the EWS gene and a member of the ETS gene family, mainly FLI1, which leads to an aberrant transcription factor EWS-FLI1 that promotes tumorigenicity. Gap junctions are intercellular channels composed of transmembrane proteins (connexin: Cx), that allow direct intercellular communication between adjacent cells. Numerous studies have shown that tumorigenesis may be associated with a loss of gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC). Loss of Cx43 expression was observed at the protein and mRN

Intensive combined modality therapy including low-dose TBI in high-risk Ewing's Sarcoma Patients.

Twenty-four high-risk Ewing's sarcoma patients were treatedf on an intensive combined modality protocol including low-dose fractionated total body irradiation (TBI) and autologous bone marrow infusion (ABMI). Twenty patients (83%) achieved a complete clinical response to the primary and/or metastatic sites following induction therapy. The median disease-free interval was 18 months, and nine patients remain disease-free with a follow-up of 22 to 72 months. Local failure as a manifestation of initial relapse occurred in only three patients (15%), each having synchronous distant failure. Eight pa
