In vitro studies were performed to give information about the required metal concentrations in decontaminating Legionella-loaded warm water systems with the electrochemical generation of Ag+ and Cu2+ ions. Using silver impregnation and electron-microscopic techniques, nerves have been demonstrated in rat axillary, cervical and inguinal lymph nodes, and their distribution was investigated. With the electron microscope, vesicle-containing varicosities or terminals are demonstrated in close proximity to reticulum cells, lymphocytes, plasmablasts and mature plasma cells. Nerves supplying the blood vessels possibly differ from those supplying stromal or lymphocytic elements.

We have recently shown that a variety of proteins, including albumin and immunoglobulins conjugated to colloidal gold, strongly binds to certain basic peptide sequences, and neurohormonal peptides. The solid solubility of Sn in gamma 1 has been studied by examining a series of gamma 1 samples containing 0.25-2.0 wt% Sn by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. It has been observed that the addition of Sn to gamma 1 leads to the formation of mainly an intergranular Sn-Hg compound. On the basis of this observation it has been concluded that the solubility of Sn in gamma 1 is virtually nil.

An epizootic of measles occurred in a group of 31 silvered leaf-monkeys (Presbytis cristatus) that had been in captivity for 4-12 months. Twenty-four of the monkeys exhibited a maculopapular rash that persisted for 6-9 days. A serous to mucopurulent nasal discharge and conjunctivitis were seen in some animals.
