Engineering and characterising a novel, highly potent bispecific antibody iMab-CAP256 that targets HIV-1.

The existing repertoire of HIV-1 patient derived broadly neutralising antibodies (bNAbs) that target the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (Env) present numerous and exciting opportunities for immune-based therapeutic and preventative strategies against HIV-1. Combination antibody therapy is required to ensure greater neutralization coverage and limit Env mediated escape mutations following treatment pressure. Engineered bispecific bNAbs (bibNAbs) assimilate the advantages of combination therapy into a single antibody molecule with several configurations reporting potency enhancement as a result of

The influence of Ross 308 breeder flock age on serum Newcastle Disease Virus and Infectious Bursal Disease Virus antibody levels and their transfer to offspring.

An effectively immunized parent flock forms the foundation for the proper development of healthy chicks, largely due to the mechanism of vertical transfer of maternal antibodies (MatAb), which provides passive immunity during the early life stages of the chicks. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the age of the Ross 308 parent flock on antibody levels in the serum of the hens and their chicks during the same period with regard to Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) and Newcastle Disease (ND), as well as to analyses the transfer of antibodies from the hens to their offspring. Low teratogenicity of 13-cis-retinoic acid (isotretinoin) in the mouse corresponds to low embryo concentrations during organogenesis: comparison to the all-trans isomer.

13-cis-Retinoic acid (isotretinoin) is teratogenic in man at therapeutic doses (0.5-1.5 mg/kg body wt), but only marginally teratogenic in the mouse at exceedingly high doses (greater than 100 mg/kg). On the other hand, the isomer all-trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin) is teratogenic in the mouse at dose levels which are 10 times lower than those for the 13-cis isomer. We have therefore studied whether the greatly different teratogenic potencies of these two compounds in the mouse are the result of differences in their transplacental kinetics. Following a single oral dose of 100 mg all-trans- or

Parental Satisfaction towards Care Given at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Associated Factors in Comprehensive and Referral Hospitals of Southern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Patient satisfaction is an important aspect of the quality of care in the inpatient setting. In neonatal intensive care units, parents' satisfaction and their experiences are fundamental to assessing clinical practice and improving the quality of care delivered to infants. Hence then, it reduces infant mortality rates globally. In Ethiopia, few studies address the level of parental satisfaction towards care given at neonatal intensive care unit and no single study was done in the study area. Therefore, this study is aimed at assessing parental satisfaction towards care given at neo

Prenatal diagnosis of topsy-turvy heart.

We describe two siblings of consanguineous parents with a prenatal diagnosis of a currently unique form of congenital cardiac disease characterized by superior-inferior atrial and ventricular arrangement, concordant atrioventricular and ventriculo-arterial connections with normal arterial relationships, and a bizarre topography of the ventricular outlets, with the arterial poles being displaced posterior-inferiorly within the thorax. The abnormally low position of the aortic arch resulted in elongation and stretching of the airways, with severe compression of the trachea and left main bronchus

Mandibulofacial dysostosis with microcephaly: An expansion of the phenotype via parental survey.

Mandibulofacial dysostosis with microcephaly (MFDM) is due to haploinsufficiency of spliceosomal GTPase EFTUD2. Features include microcephaly, craniofacial dysmorphology, developmental disability, and other anomalies. We surveyed parents of individuals with MFDM to expand knowledge about health, development, and parental concerns. Participants included attendees of the inaugural MFDM family conference in June 2019 and members of the MFDM online group. To explore MFDM variable expressivity, we offered targeted Sanger sequencing for untested parents. Forty-seven parents participated in the surve

[Multifamily Therapy with Anorectic Children and Adolescents in a Day Care Clinic].

Multifamily Therapy with Anorectic Children and Adolescents in a Day Care Clinic The treatment of children and adolescents suffering from anorexia nervosa represents an enormous challenge for therapists and families as well. After release form inpatient hospital treatment, there frequently is a period of renewed weight loss and a return to anorectic comportment and thought patterns. In view of what may be understood as a relapse, feelings of guilt and shame on the part of both the patients and their parents can be triggered. This often supports dysfunctional relationship dynamics within the af

HPV vaccine education: enhancing knowledge and attitudes of community counselors and educators.

Educational efforts targeting parents of preadolescents may help them make informed decisions about having their children vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV). We conducted a pilot study examining knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of community-based health educators and counselors who routinely disseminate sexual health and prevention information through counseling and supporting these parents. We evaluated the impact of a single, brief workshop by administering questionnaires before and after the session. The workshop consisted of an educational intervention that was presented or

The Hidden Weight of Relationships: How Support and Strain Shape Well-being in Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Youth.

Although celebrated for supporting well-being, social relationships can also bring conflict and stress. Despite extensive focus on their bright side-social support-less attention is paid to their dark side-social strain-especially among socioeconomically disadvantaged young adults in high-stress conditions. This study examined how support and strain from parents, friends, and romantic partners contribute to youth well-being, in a Canadian sample of 384 young adults in their early 20s. Participants were on average 20.3 years old (SD = 0.9), evenly split by gender (50% women), 49% without a high

Sexual behavior problems in preteen children: developmental, ecological, and behavioral correlates.

A large sample of 2-12 year old children (N = 2311) was studied to determine the relationship between three sexually intrusive behavior items (SIBs) measured by the Child Sexual Behavior Inventory (CSBI) and a range of developmental, ecological, and behavioral correlates. The variables studied included age, gender, race, family income, single parent status, maternal education, family sexual behaviors, physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, social competence of the child, and three scales from the CBCL (Internalizing, Externalizing, and PTSD). Sexual abuse was not the primary predicto…

Non-Mendelian inheritance of mosquito susceptibility to infection with Brugia malayi and Brugia pahangi.

The mode of inheritance of susceptibility or refractoriness of insect vectors to medically important pathogens such as those causing malaria or filariasis is usually believed to follow normal Mendelian laws and to involve a single pair of alleles. In this report, experiments are described that demonstrate another mode of inheritance of mosquito susceptibility to filarial parasites. Crosses were made between susceptibile and refractory species of the Aedes Scutellaris complex, and the hybrid and backcross progeny were tested for susceptibility to infection by Brugia malayi and Brugia pahangi. Medium-Term Effects of a Tailored Web-Based Parenting Intervention to Reduce Adolescent Risk of Depression and Anxiety: 12-Month Findings From a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Prevention of depression and anxiety disorders early in life is a global health priority. Evidence on risk and protective factors for youth internalizing disorders indicates that the family represents a strategic setting to target preventive efforts. Despite this evidence base, there is a lack of accessible, cost-effective preventive programs for parents of adolescents. To address this gap, we recently developed the Partners in Parenting (PiP) program-an individually tailored Web-based parenting program targeting evidence-based parenting risk and protective factors for adolescent d
