A sensitive, simple, accurate and less expensive fluorimetric method was designed and validated for analysis of heptaminol HCl in both its pure and dosage forms, as well as in human plasma. The main principle used in the proposed approach was the condensation reaction between heptaminol's primary amino moiety and ethyl acetoacetate/formaldehyde reagents, giving a derivative that was highly fluorescent at 416 nm after excitation at 350 nm. Three new 4-hydroxy aurone compounds 1-3 with dimethylamino (1), bromine (2) and cyano (3) as terminal group have been synthesized. Their photophysical properties as well as recognition properties for cyanide anions in acetonitrile and aqueous solution have also been examined. These compounds exhibit remarkable response to cyanide anions with obvious color and fluorescence change owing to hydrogen bonding reaction between cyanide anions and the O-H moiety of the sensors, which allows naked eye detection of cyanide anions.

A new method for the determination of hydroxyl radicals is proposed. The method is based on the use of a hybrid molecule consisting of a fluorescent chromophore, anthracene, and a nitroxide radical. In the hybrid molecule, the nitroxide quenches the fluorescence of anthracene strongly. The reaction of hydroxyl radicals with dimethyl sulfoxide generates quantitatively methyl radicals, which then combine with the nitroxide moiety of the hybrid molecules to result in an increase in the fluorescence intensity. Aspirin and dipyridamole in pure admixtures and in dosage forms have been estimated by spectrofluorometry. Aspirin (2-12 mcg ml-1) was estimated in 1% v/v glacial acetic acid in chloroform using 246 and 345 nm for excitation and emission respectively.
