BACKGROUND: Sporotrichosis is the most common subcutaneous mycosis caused by Sporothrix spp. Traditionally, it is transmitted through injuries involving plant debris. A case of cutaneous, lymphatic Sporotrichosis, in a farm labourer, is presented. The diagnosis was established by isolating fungus from the lesion. Dimorphic nature of the fungus was established in vitro by demonstrating the mycelial phase at 25-30 degrees C and yeast phase at 37 degrees C. The patient responded well to oral administration of Potassium iodide.

A 9-year old male Arabian horse was referred to the Department of Large Animal Surgery of the University of Utrecht because of multiple nodules on the inner side of the right hind leg. The infection occurred in a 33-year-old Thai female who has been in good health and had no history of previous trauma or contact with any animals.
