Mycobacterium marinum infection has been historically associated with exposure to aquariums, swimming pools, fish, or other marine fauna. We present a case of M marinum left wrist tenosynovitis and elbow bursitis associated with a puncture injury and exposure to coal mine water in Illinois.

We present a patient with myoclonus of the left hand appearing 1 month after surgical correction of a stenosing tenosynovitis of the thumb. An extensive fibrosis of the external palmar digital nerve was shown, and the successful liberation of this median nerve terminal branch completely and rapidly eliminated the movement disorder.

This preliminary report proposes to show that an objective auscultatory method exists as an aid to diagnosis of some hand conditions. The signals so produced are both distinctive and reproducible. The conditions investigated were:- Cavitation finger clicks; Trigger finger; normal crepitus and the crepitus of de Quervain's tenosynovitis.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical application of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) in the diagnosis of joint lesions in palindromic rheumat … i-quantitative (SQ) grading method was used to score synovial hypertrophy (SH), power Doppler (PD), tenosynovitis, subcutaneous soft tissue inflammation, bone erosion, and GLOESS. The incidence of ultrasound findings and SQ scores were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Hand joint involvement was higher in the PR group than in the RA group, whereas knee …

We report the case of a 32-year-old man with septic arthritis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae tenosynovitis, diagnosed after joint fluid culture treated with ceftriaxone. It is one of the most frequent causes of purulent septic arthritis in young people in undeveloped countries. Early diagnosis is important to avoid complications.

Peroneal tendoscopy is indicated for peroneal tenosynovitis, subluxation or dislocation, snapping, partial tears requiring debridement, and postoperative adhesions and scarring. Peroneal tendoscopy was also found to be valuable as a diagnostic tool in some instances. It is generally reported to have good to excellent outcomes in most patients with a relatively low occurrence of complications.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Tenosynovitis with rice bodies is a rare presentation, diagnosable by MRI. Surgical excision is the preferred treatment for tendon sheath masses containing rice bodies. The etiology was Mycobacterium tuberculosis in our case, highlighting the need to consider extrapulmonary TB in atypical presentations, ensuring effective treatment.
ABSTRACT: Rice body tenosynovitis is a rare clinical phenomenon with various etiologies. Inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and tuberculosis have been shown to be associated with this condition. Herein we report a 46-year-old …

De Quervain tenosynovitis is often treated by simple release of the first compartment. However, patients can suffer from persistent postoperative problems, including "clumsy" use of the thumb, as a result of redislocation or bowstringing of the extensor pollicis brevis/abductor pollicis longus tendons or irritation of the superficial branch of the radial nerve. Here we describe our method for first compartment reconstruction, in which the flaps are sutured after double-flap incision of the compartment. Because the tendons can become recompressed or redislocate if the sutures are too tight or l…

De Quervain's disease constitutes the most frequently occurring stenotic tenosynovitis. The authors have studied which imaging technique allows for the best representation of anatomopathologic modifications. Ultrasound examination appeared to be the most appropriate and advantageous method as it reveals involvement of the sheaths and tendons in the simplest, most complete, and least expensive manner.

INTRODUCTION: Jaccoud arthropathy (JA) is a deforming nonerosive arthropathy, characterized by the presence of "reversible" joint deformity. The study aims at describing the main musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) findings of a series of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with JA.
METHODS: Consecutive patients diagnosed as having JA and SLE were included in the study. All patients underwent a whole clinical evaluation and US of the hands and wrists. The US scan evaluated the presence of synovial hypertrophy, tenosynovitis, and bone erosions.
RESULTS: Thirty-nine of 40 patients were fem…

PURPOSE: De Quervain disease is the stenosing tenosynovitis of the first extensor compartment of the wrist. It is diagnosed with a history of pain at the radial aspect of the wrist and a positive Finkelstein test. Although anatomic variations, such as a septum within the compartment, are considered as risk factors, bony anatomy of distal radius and its correlation with the septa are studied scarcely in the literature.
METHODS: We dissected 50 wrists of 26 cadavers. Presence and location of a septum within the compartment was evaluated. We also observed the grooves at distal radius and their r…

The gonococcal arthritis-dermatitis syndrome includes tenosynovitis, arthralgias, arthritis, skin lesions, and constitutional symptoms. A patient with popliteal cyst involvement and gonococcal arthritis-dermatitis syndrome is the subject of this report. The detection of areas of involvement by the use of gallium-67 citrate, 99m-technetium phosphate, and indium-111-labeled granulocytes is also detailed.

Open reduction and volar neutralization plate fixation avoids problems associated with dorsal plate fixation (eg, extensor tenosynovitis and tendon rupture) and minimizes the necessity for secondary plate removal. Volar plating is a useful technique for treating dorsally displaced distal radius fractures with minimal scarring, infrequent bone grafting, and safe early wrist mobilization.

Although carpal tunnel syndrome associated with injury to the wrist is common, it is possible to overlook symptoms of median nerve compression caused by an ascending tenosynovitis secondary to trauma distal to the wrist. One should look for these symptoms in such patients who complain of pain and weakness of the hand, and release the carpal tunnel if nerve compression is suspected.

BACKGROUND: In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) bone marrow edema (BME, osteitis) and anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) are associated with radiographic progression. ACPA have been associated with BME, but it is unknown if this association is confined to ACPA and BME. We performed cross-sectional analysis of the association of ACPA, rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-carbamylated protein (anti-CarP) antibodies with BME and other types of inflammation (synovitis, tenosynovitis) detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
METHODS: Disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD)-naïve patients w…

Trigger finger is commonly secondary to stenosing tenosynovitis. Space occupying lesions in the tendon bed, although uncommon, may prevent smooth tendon gliding. These include lipoma, anomalous muscle insertions, tumours of the tendon sheath and haemangiomas. We describe a patient who had triggering of the left middle finger at the proximal interphalangeal joint due to an exostosis blocking the flexor tendons gliding. Removal of the exostosis relieved the problem. The clinician must be aware that there are other causes for triggering. These may be identified with pertinent findings in the hist…
