In the labeling of penicillamine (Pen) with 99mTc, various complexes were detected. Studies of the conditions for differentiating the product formed in order to understand the chemical and biological behavior were carried out. Marked roles of pH and SnCl2 concentration were observed. Controlled delivery of Sn2+ ion was obtained with the tin-adsorbed resin (Sn-resin) developed. Radiopharmaceutical and biological characterization of mononuclear and dinuclear complexes of Tc-Pen, under given sets of labeling condition, were established. A new pregnane steroid, named aspergillon A (1), together with two known compounds, (22E,24R)-ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol (2) and (22E, 24R)-ergosta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one (3) were isolated from cultures of the tin mine tailings-associated fungus Aspergillus versicolor. The new structure and absolute configuration were determined with the help of extensive spectroscopic analyses and quantum chemical calculations of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra.

Three new drimane sesquiterpenoids, 12-hydroxyalbrassitriol (1), drim-8(12)-en-6β,7α, 9α,11-tetraol (2), and drim-68(12)-dien-9α,11-diol (3), along with one known analog albrassitriol (4), were isolated from cultures of the tin mine tailings-associated fungus Penicillium sp. The new structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. All compounds were tested for their cytotoxicities against five human cancer cell lines.

Indium-mediated radical reactions proceed in the absence of toxic tin hydride, providing a new carbon-carbon bond-forming method in aqueous media. Herein, the results of experiments to probe the utility of indium as a radical initiator in reactions in aqueous media are reported. The indium-mediated tandem reactions also proceed smoothly via two carbon-carbon bond-forming processes for the preparation of various types of functionalized cyclic compounds.

The study of the pseudobinary system Cu(2)SnS(3-)Cu(2)SiS(3) shows that a solid solution (Cu(2)Si(x)Sn(1-x)S(3)) exists in the range 0.4 < or = Si/(Sn+Si) < or = 0.6.
