Unilateral pulmonary agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly whose aetiology is not completely known. Vitamin A deficiency, viral agents, or genetic factors are discussed. The incidence was estimated at 1 in 10,000-15,000 autopsies by several authors. Associated malformations, mainly affecting the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal system influence the prognosis of patients as does the location of the missing lung. Web neck deformity has been recognised for over 100 years and during that time there has been a large amount of literature devoted to it. We describe here a technique for reconstruction of the external ear based upon an autogenous costal cartilage graft which is inserted into a cutaneous pocket dissected in the auricular area. Three subsequent procedures are then performed: rotation of the ear-lobe; reconstruction of the tragus; and elevation of the auricle. The ideal age for reconstruction is about 7 years. This technique was originally described by Brent, who has a very extensive experience with this kind of surgery. Skin deficiencies can be overcome by using either a temporo-parietal fascial flap or a skin expander.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the management of congenital scalp defects in infants.
METHODS: From 1996 to 2008, 6 infants with congenital scalp defects were treated with dressing change, flap transposition, or tissue expansion combined with skull defect reconstruction.
RESULTS: Parietal scalp defects in 6 cases were healed after treatment. 5 cases were followed up for 3 months to one year. 2 cases had scalp alopecia in some areas. The scar was inconspicuous in the other 3 cases.

Segmental nerve defects have been repaired with nerve grafts. However, regenerating fibers must go through two coaptation sites, and donor site morbidities are inevitable. We elongated the distal nerve segment using a tissue expander and reconnected the nerve. We compared these results with those of nerve grafting.
