BACKGROUND: Mesiodens usually lead to the malposition and abnormal morphology of maxillary central incisors.
AIM: To evaluate the detrimental effects of single unilaterally impacted mesiodens on the three-dimensional positions and morphology of the maxillary central incisor using cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) examinations.
DESIGN: A total of 321 patients aged 5-17 years with single unilaterally impacted mesiodens were included and divided into two groups: mixed dentition group (5-10 years) and early permanent dentition group (11-17 years). CBCT data for these patients were retrospect

INTRODUCTION: It has been postulated that crown angulation and inclination has potential space implication within the arch. With the insight of space implication of the axial relations of teeth, cases of genuine tooth size discrepancies can be dealt with improved stability.
AIM: This in vitro study was designed to investigate and quantify the influence of angulation and inclination of maxillary incisors on the effective arch perimeter.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Acrylic teeth were arranged over typhodont frame with spaced maxillary anterior segment. Known value of tip and torque in increments we

Single tooth implant-supported restorations have become a common procedure for the restoration of missing teeth. This clinical report describes the treatment and long-term follow-up of 2 maxillary implant-supported crowns in the canine region placed after unsuccessful reimplantation and successful bone augmentation procedures. In spite of the complicated procedures presented, a good long-term clinical result was achieved.

The objective of this research is to analyse the causal relationship between construction of fixed bridge dentures and the intensity of halitosis manifestations, as well as to establish basic hygiene requirements for construction of fixed dentures which would completely exclude retention of food particles and avoid bad breath. 48 patients (36 men and 12 women), who use fixed dentures for 2-10 years, have been involved in this research. 26 patients wore fixed bridge dentures made of punched tooth crowns, the other 22 patients wore cast fixed dentures. The obtained measurements of halitosis magn…

Severe dental traumatic injuries, such as the complete displacement of a tooth from its socket (Avulsion) or the displacement of a tooth within its socket (Intrusive Luxation), may result in extensive injury to the root surface. As a result, the root surface injury heals without cementum and there is fusion between the alveolar bone and the exposed dentin or anorganic exposed cementum, without any attachment apparatus between them. This phenomenon is known as "dento-alveolar ankylosis" and is accompanied by ankylotic resorption of the root. In a process that results subsequent to the ankylosis

A case is reported in which an incisor fractured below the alveolar crest 6 months after completion of apexification treatment was surgically extruded for prosthetic coronal restoration. After the surgical procedure, a dowel post was placed in the root canal, a core was built using glass-ionomer cement, and a porcelain veneer crown restoration was completed. The 24-month follow-up examination after surgical, endodontic, and prosthetic treatments showed that the tooth was clinically and radiographically healthy and functioned well.

This case report highlights the importance of early detection and timely management of trauma-induced inflammatory root resorption (external inflammatory root resorption, EIR) following dental injuries. A nine-year-old boy presented with an extrusive luxation injury of teeth #11 and #21, accompanied by an uncomplicated crown fracture. Our proposed treatment plan was to opt for root canal treatment for both central incisors to prevent EIR; however, the patient's guardian opted for root canal treatment only for tooth #21 and to keep tooth #11 under observation, as it was vital at the time. Unfor

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables the assessment of regressive morphological changes in teeth, which can be used to predict chronological age (CA) in adults. As each tooth region is known to have different correlations with CA, this study aimed to segment and quantify the sectional volumes of the tooth crown and root from CBCT scans to test their correlations with the chronological age (CA). Seventy-five CBCT scans from individuals with age between 20 and 60 years were collected retrospectively from an existing database. A total of 192 intact maxillary anterior teeth fulfilled the e…

BACKGROUND: Sufficient information is not available regarding the selection of ideal post and core types or the preferred method to access the subgingival margin to achieve optimal marginal integrity in the reconstruction of teeth with deep cervical lesions. This study aimed to evaluate how the position of the finish line and different post and core types, combined with deep marginal elevation (DME) and crown lengthening (CL) procedures, affect the marginal integrity of monolithic zirconia crowns in endodontically treated premolars.
METHODS: In the present laboratory experiment, 60 endodontic

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Tooth resorption is common in the domestic cat and the incidence has been reported to increase with increasing age. Cats with clinically missing teeth have also been found to be more likely to have tooth resorption. All types of teeth in the feline dentition may be affected, but lesions seem to be more common in certain teeth.
CLINICAL CHALLENGES: Tooth resorption can be difficult to detect, with cats often masking signs of oral discomfort or pain. Routine radiography is required for timely diagnosis, as clinical (visual and tactile) methods only detect late-stage lesions

Dentigerous cysts are benign odontogenic cysts that are associated with the crowns of permanent teeth. Dentigerous cysts surrounding impacted teeth often displace teeth into ectopic positions. In the maxilla, these teeth are often displaced into the maxillary sinus. We report 3 cases of dentigerous cysts associated with an ectopic tooth in the maxillary sinus and review the literature reports of this condition over the past 29 years.

This case report describes the successful orthodontic treatment of a 12-year-old girl with skeletal Class III malocclusion and severe root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Ectopic eruption and mesial inclination of the bilateral maxillary canines caused severe root resorption of the right central and lateral incisors and the left lateral incisor. These 3 teeth were extracted, and traction was applied to the maxillary right and left canines toward the extracted right central incisor and left lateral incisor, respectively. In the mandibular arch, the bilateral first premolars were ext

BACKGROUNDS: This paper describes an additional benefit in double anterior segmental osteotomy to correct severe anterior protrusion in adult patients with extremely thin mandibular alveolus and ankylosed tooth. For the optimal anterior segmental retraction, an ankylosed posterior tooth needed surgical inclination reposition. During anterior segmental osteotomy surgery under local anesthesia, additional single tooth osteotomy was performed without challenge.
METHODS: For anterior segment retraction, osteotomy cuts were made by the surgeon to define a block of bone embedding 6 mandibular anter
