Partial extraction therapy (PET) is a surgical approach aimed at preserving the periodontium by maintaining part of the patient's tooth root during implant placement. This case report presents the detailed clinical management of a female patient diagnosed with an Ellis Class VIII fracture involving the right upper lateral incisor (tooth #12). The treatment involved the application of PET followed by implant placement, ensuring optimal esthetics and function while preventing alveolar ridge resorption. This case highlights that in the esthetic zone, instead of using the conventional implant plac

Delayed eruption, malocclusion, poor oral hygiene, and formation of follicular cysts are some complications associated with an impacted supernumerary tooth (ST). Although surgical extraction is one of the methods to prevent these complications, it can also lead to fractured roots or has a risk of permanent injury to young teeth and gingiva. Recently, computer-assisted preoperative simulation has been helpful in planning the surgery for precise extraction of impacted ST guided with 3-dimensional images. Herein, we present 2 cases of extraction of severely impacted ST guided by preoperative comp

Luxation injuries to incisors, including intrusive displacement, occur with a high frequency in the primary dentition. Intrusion injuries are associated with damage to the pulpal and periodontal structures and possible fracture of the alveolar bone. The pulpal tissue of the intruded tooth sustains a severe shock during displacement, which may be reflected later by sequelae ranging from mild discoloration to pulpal necrosis and infection. Disintegration of pulpal tissue may result in periapical tissue inflammation, which in turn may induce developmental disturbances in the germ of the permanent

The majority of dental trauma involves anterior teeth, especially the maxillary central incisors. A mandibular incisor fracture with or without pulp tissue involvement is considerably less common. Different approaches for treating these fractured teeth have been reported in the literature. The type of treatment rendered depends mainly on the extent of fracture, pulp involvement, radicular fracture, biologic width infringement or violation, and presence of the fractured piece. This case report illustrates reattachment of fractured fragments on two mandibular incisors without pulp exposure using

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The number of fractured anterior teeth following trauma has been increasing while not every patient is able to afford a dental implant instead of maintaining the injured tooth. Thus, a tooth conservation solution is required to place an aesthetic and functional restoration without biologic width violation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of minimally traumatic controlled surgical extrusion in fractured anterior teeth crown lengthening by assessing the periodontal status through clinical examination and radiographs.
METHODS: This longitudinal observatio

In this paper the biomechanical response of a novel dental preparation technique, referred to as the Anatomic-Functional-Geometry treatment (AFG), is investigated through a 3D nonlinear finite-element modelling approach. A comparative investigation against a standard technique employed in dental clinical practice is carried out, by simulating typical experimental mechanical tests and physiological functional conditions. Failure mechanisms of treated tooth models are investigated through a progressive damage formulation implemented via a displacement-driven incremental approach. Computational r

Advanced Trauma and Life Support protocol is used in trauma situations to identify life-threatening injuries, and after those are addressed, it provides a systematic approach to identify minor injuries. A 17-year-old male, who was involved in a motor vehicle accident, was treated for an open toe fracture. He also had an "avulsion injury" to his left hand and was missing a tooth. On follow-up two days later, he was found to have a tooth in his left hand after he presented with cellulitis of a hand wound. He was appropriately treated with foreign body removal, incision and drainage, and antibiot

Thirty-five fully developed teeth were autogenously transplanted for 24 partially edentulous adult patients to enable the placement of fixed partial dentures. Restoration was successfully carried out on 22 patients during the follow-up period up to 13 years after surgery. Two restorations failed, one because of root fracture and another as a result of ankylosis of the transplanted tooth. Six transplanted abutment teeth showed root resorption and/or loss of attachment without consequence for the dental restoration. The proportion of successful tooth transplantations was 97% after 1 year, 94% af

Thorough evaluation of dentition is important in the management of craniofacial trauma. Avulsed or fractured teeth in the pulmonary and gastrointestinal tracts can lead to serious complications that are well described. However, the penetration of avulsed teeth into soft tissues of the head and neck is unusual and may not be recognized. Two cases in which a tooth became a foreign body in these soft tissues are illustrative. One patient had bronchoscopy for possible aspiration of an avulsed maxillary canine; it was later found embedded in the premaxillary tissues. The other patient had a right m

Diagnosis and treatment planning are key factors in achieving successful outcomes after placing and restoring implants placed immediately after tooth extraction. The efficacy of immediate implant placement has been established and shown to be predictable if reasonable guidelines are followed. Some or all of the following suggestions, depending on individual circumstances, should be considered when evaluating a patient for dental implants: thorough medical and dental histories, clinical photographs, study casts, periapical and panogram radiographs as well as a linear tomography or computerised

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance of tooth crowns endodontically irrigated using different protocols.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 76 bovine incisors were divided into four groups (n = 19): irrigation with distilled water (control; CON); conventional irrigation with positive apical pressure (PAP); passive ultrasonic irrigation using continuous flushing (PUI); and irrigation with PAP and heated sodium hypo-chlorite solution (PHS). The force required to fracture the crown was measured on a universal testing machine at an angle of 45°.
RESULTS: The CON group had hig

Crown root fractures are frequently difficult to treat and have a bad prognosis. To restore the biological space, intentional replantation can be chosen when osteotomy/osteoplasty and dental traction are not viable. Intentional replantation with tooth rotation consists of extraction, 180 degrees rotation and replantation, thus restoring the biological space. After treatment of inflammatory resorption with calcium hydroxide, endodontic treatment was completed. The patient was followed up with clinical examination (mobility test, gingival sulcus depth) and radiographic analysis (to analyze root

A review of the literature is presented to discuss anterior tooth trauma in the primary dentition. Studies show that the incidence ranges from 4 percent to 30 percent and varies depending upon the sex and age of the child. Classification of the type of trauma is subdivided into trauma to the tooth and trauma to the periodontium. Treatment modalities depend upon various factors and range from nontreatment to splinting to extraction. Possible sequelae of primary tooth trauma may include tooth discoloration, loss of vitality, root resorption and/or abscess formation. Careful follow-up is recommen

Transverse and oblique intra-alveolar fractures constitute a major therapeutic problem, particularly in young dentitions. Very few treatment alternatives apart from extraction have been available. This report is a clinical and roentgenological evaluation of a series of intra-alveolar transplantations which were carried out on 56 teeth with complicated crown-root fractures. The patients ranged in age from 9-33 years and were observed over a period of 4 years. Of the 8 teeth which had to be extracted due to further traumatic/prosthetic complications, 7 were retained for histologic examination. A
