INTRODUCTION: In the literature several reconstructive techniques for vascular anastomoses in case of kidney graft vascular variants are reported. This article reports our experience in kidney transplants with vascular anomalies.

BACKGROUND: The epithelial response to injury is stereotypical and reminiscent of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs), such as those observed during embryogenesis and tumour metastasis. BACKGROUND: Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is an asymptomatic plasma cell proliferative disorder with a lifelong risk of progression to multiple myeloma or another plasma cell dyscrasia. Despite a high incidence in the general population and an increased relative risk for later malignancy, there are few reports about the clinical course of MGUS or risk profile in long-term immunosuppressed patients.

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) represents a cure for nonmalignant hematological disorders. OBJECTIVE: Simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPK) is a procedure which frees the diabetic patient with end-stage nephropathy from dialysis and daily insulin injections. The purpose of this study is to report long-term outcomes of this procedure, and describe surgical and medical complications.
METHODS: The analysis includes 1000 consecutive SPKs performed between 1985 and 2007. Bladder drainage was used in 390 patients and enteric drainage in 610 patients. In 362 patients, SPK transplantation was performed before initiation of dialysis.

We report the retrospective outcomes of unrelated donor (URD) transplants in 169 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in first complete remission (CR1) who received transplants between 1995 and 2004. Median age was 33 years (range, 16-59 years). Transplantation of human fetal neural tissue into adult neostriatum is an experimental therapy for Huntington's disease (HD). BACKGROUND: For ethnic minority patients where a suitably matched BM or peripheral blood donor is frequently unavailable, cord blood offers an opportunity for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Focused recruitment of ethnic minorities for cord blood donation has been proposed as the preferred strategy to improve access for minority recipients to cord blood for transplantation.
