Concurrent Intramedullary and Intracranial Tuberculomass.

Tuberculosis of the central nervous system (CNS) is well known. CNS involvement can occur in the form of tubercular meningitis (TBM), tuberculous vasculitis, tuberculoma and rarely brain abscess. Tubercular granulomas generally solitary and occur in the brain but they may be multiple and involve other areas such as spinal cord, epidural space and subdural space also. Tuberculoma in the spinal cord is rare. Co-occurrence of intracerebral and intramedullary spinal tuberculoma is extremely rare in children with only few cases reported till date. We are reporting one such case in children and revi

Drug resistant TB spine in a two year old child: A case report.

Spinal tuberculosis (TB) is a disease of high morbidity that is associated with deformity and neurological sequelae, especially in growing children. Children diagnosed with spinal TB need to be monitored closely for clinical improvements. Previous history of antituberculous therapy (ATT), poor adherence to previous ATT, contact with persons having known drug-resistant (DR) TB, or clinical worsening despite regular ATT are strong indicators for the diagnosis of DR TB of the spine. We report a case of spinal DRTB in a two year old child with no previous history of ATT and contact with a person o

Syringomyelia as a delayed complication of lumbar-sacral adhesive arachnoiditis in Pott's disease.

Syringomyelia is the development of a fluid-filled cyst (syrinx) within the spinal cord and is an extremely rare chronic manifestation of tuberculosis. The syrinx so formed may expand over time, causing compression or destruction of spinal tracts and surrounding nerve roots. Development of syringomyelia in a patient of Pott's disease is particularly infrequent. We report this rare case of a 31-year-old man with syringomyelia as a prolonged complication of Pott's disease.

Treatment of intraspinal tuberculoma.

Neurological manifestations in spinal tuberculosis often occur secondary to vertebral involvement. However, tuberculoma of the spinal cord or extradural granuloma without radiological evidence of vertebral involvement may be responsible for neurological complications. We report 22 patients with intraspinal tuberculoma (19 extradural, three intramedullary) ranging in age from 17 to 70 years. Three patients had a history of paraplegia of acute onset (within 12 hours of the appearance of neural deficit). Only four patients had spinal tenderness, and bone involvement could be seen on plain radiogr

One-stage lateral rhachotomy and posterior spinal fusion with compression hooks for Pott's paralysis in the elderly.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of one-stage lateral rhachotomy and posterior fusion with compression hooks, for the treatment of Pott's paralysis in the elderly. METHODS: 11 elderly patients underwent lateral rhachotomy (costotransversectomy and pediculectomy) to debride the tuberculosis focus extending into the epidural space and to decompress the spinal cord. After debridement, the interbody cavity was packed with autologous iliac bone chips. For stabilisation, posterior fusion was performed using a compression lamina hook system. Patients were followed up for at least 2

Intra-medullary tuberculoma of the spinal cord presenting with typhoid and paraplegia: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Intra-medullary spinal tuberculoma is a rare form of tuberculosis, with an incidence of only two in 100,000 patients with tuberculosis. We present a case of intra-medullary tuberculoma from Pakistan, which was diagnosed by radiological findings and analysis of cerebrospinal fluid using polymerase chain reaction testing. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 28-year-old Sindhi male with intra-medullary tuberculoma of the spinal cord at the C3 level. Our patient was treated solely with anti-tubercular drug therapy with no surgical intervention. CONCLUSIONS: We discuss the p

[Therapeutic problems with HIV-infected tuberculous spondylitis patients in the South African Republic].

We can only hope, that the dual epidemic of tuberculosis and HIV disease is not going to affect the population of Europe and Hungary so badly and unexpectedly as it happened in sub-Saharan Africa. The spinal tuberculosis with or without paraplegia presents with increasing frequency and their management may differ from those without HIV infection. The success of antituberculotic drug therapy alone reduced the role of surgeons to a largely diagnostic one, however complications frequently require surgery.

Cervical Pott's Disease Presenting As Quadriplegia in a Young Patient: A Case Report.

Cervical Pott's disease, a form of spinal tuberculosis (TB), is a significant concern in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Early detection and treatment are critical to preventing complications like vertebral collapse. Clinical and radiological features of cervical Pott's disease can resemble other spinal conditions, posing diagnostic challenges. We present a case of a 28-year-old female who initially presented with quadriplegia, cervical instability, and high-grade fever. Through multidisciplinary collaboration and prompt intervention, the patient was diagnosed with cord compression s

Epidemiological profile among pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis patients in Laayoune, Morocco.

INTRODUCTION: despite major strides in the prevention, diagnosis and management of tuberculosis, the disease continues to be one of the most pressing global health problems, particularly in developing countries. The purpose of the present study was to describe the epidemiological profile among tuberculosis patients in Laayoune, Morocco. METHODS: a retrospective study was conducted among tuberculosis patients (having extrapulmonary tuberculosis and pulmonary tuberculosis), registered in the diagnosis of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases reference center of Laayoune, between January 2017 an
