BACKGROUND: Phototherapy has been a first-line treatment for early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) since 1976. Oral 8-methoxypsoralen plus ultraviolet A (oral PUVA) and narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) are favorable modalities owing to their availability. In previous studies, phototherapy was conducted thrice per week initially, which is not feasible for many patients.

Ultraviolet-B (UVB) phototherapy for the treatment of vitiligo is an effective first-line choice. However, the cost of multiple doctor visits and the lengthy treatment regimen has resulted in low compliance, limiting access to this safe and effective mode of treatment. Topical Photocil represents an innovative solution to this problem. The drug selectively filters solar radiation to deliver narrow-band UVB to vitiligo lesions. Here, we discuss how this novel topical cream could provide a convenient alternative to artificial light phototherapy.

BACKGROUND: Narrow band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy has been used successfully for the treatment of vitiligo. Recently, topical calcipotriol has also been claimed to be effective, either as monotherapy or as a part of combination therapies.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical efficacy of NB-UVB and NB-UVB plus topical calcipotriol in the treatment of vitiligo.

UVB phototherapy is treatment for psoriasis, which increases phospholipid oxidative modifications in the cell membrane of the skin. Therefore, we carried out lipidomic analysis on the keratinocytes of healthy individuals and patients with psoriasis irradiated with UVB and treated with cannabidiol (CBD), phytocannabinoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Our results showed that, in psoriatic keratinocytes phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), and ether-linked phosphoethanolamine (PEo), were downregulated, while SM (d41:2) was upregulated.
