Swallowing function has been evaluated by means of videofluoroscopy and videoendoscopy in 31 patients submitted to surgery for local extended bucco-pharyngeal carcinoma. Aim was to better predict functional deficits and subsequent recovery perspectives of patients as far as concerns swallowing. In 30 patients, surgery was combined with radiotherapy, pre-operative in 6 cases and post-operative in 24. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate histories, clinical signs, and laboratory data of 69 horses homozygous by DNA testing for hyperkalemic periodic paralysis (HPP).
DESIGN: Cohort study.
SAMPLE POPULATION: 69 of 189 horses testing homozygous for HPP between October 1992 and November 1994.
PROCEDURE: Questionnaires addressing signalment, training regimes, medical history, and current status of affected horses were sent to owners, trainers, or attending veterinarians. Data from completed questionnaires were tabulated and evaluated, using descriptive statistics.

A child with Möbius syndrome (facial diplegia) was studied during affective interplay with both parents at six and 10 months, then re-assessed with the Ainsworth Strange Situation at 14 months. The child demonstrated normal cognitive development, but insecure-resistant attachment. This experiment of nature is presented as an example of resilience in the field of social communication of affect and discussed as comparable to examples found in the fields of motor co-ordination and expressive language.

Duration, frequency, and temporal distribution of attacks have been objectively estimated in 11 SUNCT patients (3 women and 8 men). The mean age at the time of the study was 69 years (range 52 to 81). The duration of a total of 348 attacks was measured from videotape records, polygraphic tracings, or by stopwatch.
