We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with heterotaxy syndrome and polysplenia who presented with clinical signs and symptoms of recurrent acute pancreatitis in which the biliary origin had been seen in the most recent episode. This syndrome is rare in adult patients because it is associated with congenital heart defects. It is important to know the visceral anomalies that are common in this syndrome to avoid confusing them with pathological processes.

The Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator was used for cytoreduction in ten patients with intra-abdominal malignancy (nine ovarian and one fallopian tube). The mean age was 65 years, and eight patients had stage IIIC disease. Standard surgical techniques were used to resect the adnexa, uterus, and omentum. The Cavitron was used to remove disease from the diaphragm, spleen, stomach, and small bowel without resection or injury. Two cases of fatal heat stroke, concerning a 20 year-old soldier and a 44 year-old psychiatric patient, treated with neuroleptics, are reported. The clinical picture, starting suddenly with coma and hyperthermia, was quite identical for both. We present a clinical case of mitral insufficiency in a 59-year-old patient with dextrocardia and complete transposition of the viscera.
