Histone acetyltransferases are important enzymes that regulate various cellular functions, such as epigenetic control of DNA transcription. Development of HAT inhibitors with high selectivity and potency will provide powerful mechanistic tools for the elucidation of the biological functions of HATs and may also have pharmacological value for potential new therapies. N-acetyl-L-cysteine exerts a complex action on endometrial cells, involving regulation of gene expression and protein activity and location, all converging into a decreased proliferation and a switch toward a differentiating, less invasive, and less inflammatory phenotype. Also considering the lack of undesired side effects, including unaffected fertility potential, this suggests a beneficial use of NAC in endometriosis clinical treatment.

We investigated the systemic effects of subchronic dietary exposure to NAA in Sprague Dawley® rats. NAA was added to the diet at different concentrations to deliver target doses of 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg of body weight/day and was administered for 90 consecutive days. An unassigned and prominent resonance in the region from delta 2.0-2.1 ppm has frequently been found in the in vivo MR spectra of cancer patients. Because cellular and extract data have suggested that N-acetylaspartate (NAA) reflects neuronal mitochondrial function, we evaluated the quantitative relationship between NAA, high-energy phosphates, and ADP levels in the hippocampus and occipital lobe of 15 healthy volunteers. Fully deprotected N-terminal alpha-hydrazino acetyl peptides were synthesized and chemoselectively acylated on the hydrazine moiety with various fatty acid succinimidyl esters or N-(cholesterylcarbonyloxy) succinimide to give lipopeptides of high purity. OBJECTIVES: To investigate chromium-induced renal dysfunction in electroplating workers.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was used to evaluate four biochemical markers of renal function. A total of 178 workers were divided into 3 comparable groups consisting of 34 hard-chrome plating workers, 98 nickel-chrome electroplating workers. and 46 aluminum anode-oxidation workers, who represented the reference group. The effects of acute treatment of young male rats with 350 mg/kg of acetyl-l-carnitine (ALCAR) at 15.00 hr on the synthesis and secretion of melatonin by the pineal gland and the retinas were studied 1 hr after injection. Rat acetyltransferases (ATs) can acetylate the endogenous arylalkylamines tryptamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), and 5-methoxytryptamine, the immediate precursor of melatonin. The same enzymes also acetylate and activate exogenous, carcinogenic arylamines, thereby being immediately responsible for the generation of DNA adducts.
