Psychoeducational interventions for children and adolescents with potentially traumatic experiences: a systematic review.

Background: Children and adolescents with potentially traumatic experiences (PTEs; e.g. violence, severe injuries, displacement) are at considerable risk for psychological distress. Psychoeducation is frequently used to reduce stress and enhance coping; however, evidence of its effectiveness for PTEs, particularly as a stand-alone intervention, remains inconclusive. Objective: This systematic review aimed to summarise existing evidence on stand-alone psychoeducational interventions for children and adolescents with PTEs, focusing on three child outcomes: trauma-related knowledge, psychopatholog

The AFFIRM Model for Navigating Challenges in Continuously-Interfaith and Divergent-Interfaith Marriages.

The primary purpose of this study was to identify the processes that helped happy and stable interfaith marriages navigate religious differences. To contextualize these adaptive processes, we secondarily explored the interfaith challenges these couples experienced. A final exploratory aim compared these challenges and processes in continuously-interfaith couples who started as and remained interfaith, and divergent-interfaith couples, an understudied subgroup who initially shared a religion but later became interfaith due to religious changes. In-depth interviews were conducted with 30 interfa

Quality of Life and Adjustment Evaluation Tools for Persons Living With an Ostomy: A Narrative Review.

The purpose of this narrative review was to identify instruments used to evaluate health-related quality of life (QoL) among individuals living with an ostomy. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Scopus databases were searched from January 1948 to May 2023. We searched for studies describing the development and validation of instruments used to measure QoL in people living with an ostomy. Twelve instruments were identified, 7 of which were developed specifically for ostomy populations and were the focus of this review. We assert that generic QoL scales are insufficient for capturing

Patient characteristics and lifestyle determinants of quality of life among women with endometriosis: a systematic review.

ABSTRACT: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease presenting with debilitating symptoms strongly impacting patients' quality of life (QoL). Assessing QoL is crucial for understanding the full patient experience beyond clinical symptoms. This narrative systematic review specifically aimed to identify and describe non-pharmacological and non-surgical factors associated with QoL in women with endometriosis as reported in the literature. Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Embase up to January 15, 2025, for case-control, cohort, rand

A systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative studies of alopecia: Managing identity and appearance changes.

PURPOSE: Alopecia is a medical dermatology condition resulting in multiple psychosocial negative consequences in identity and appearence. Despite numerous qualitative studies examining the experience of people with alopecia, a comprehensive synthesis is lacking. This can obscure progress in research and minimize the impact of psychosocial support people with alopecia can receive. This systematic meta-synthesis aimed to critically integrate the existing literature to enhance psychological understanding of how people with alopecia manage issues about identity and appearance changes, and provide

The Emotional Experiences of Healthcare Professionals Working in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Systematic Review.

Healthcare professionals (HCPs) working with people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are often exposed to emotive circumstances including end of life care, trauma, loss, and death. Existing reviews have explored the emotional experiences of people living with ALS and their carers but have largely ignored healthcare staff and the impact of this work on them. This systematic review of qualitative research aims to explore the emotional experiences of and impact on HCPs working with people living with ALS using thematic synthesis (PROSPERO reference: CRD42025631749). Mental Health of Homicidally Bereaved Individuals: A Systematic Review of Post-Homicide Factors.

Experiencing the homicide of a loved one has a substantial impact on the mental health of family members and friends who must survive their loved one's tragic death. This systematic review aims to synthesize the current findings on post-homicide factors and identify the factors most frequently related to the mental health of homicidally bereaved individuals (HBI). Four databases were searched (PsycINFO, SCOPUS, Sociological Abstract, PubMed). The selection of studies was based on a peer review process conducted by two independent researchers to ensure interrater reliability. The articles were

Evidence Map of Non-Pharmacological Dementia Care Partner Interventions Implemented in the US: Gaps and Impact Opportunities.

There are 200+ tested interventions for care partners (family, friends, and fictive kin) of people living with dementia (PLWD). But these interventions do not systematically cover relevant settings. Nor do these interventions affect all relevant outcomes that matter to people and healthcare systems. We present an evidence map of settings and outcomes from translated interventions to identify gaps. Of 190 studies identified, 31 unique interventions were retained in the evidence map. Identified setting gaps included studies set solely in hospitals/medical centers or set in multiple settings. Ide
