[Lhermitte-Duclos disease associated with tuberous sclerosis. A case report and review of literature].

INTRODUCTION: Lhermitte-Duclos disease is a rare disorder of the cerebellum of unknown origin in which dysplasic thickening of the cerebellar convolutions is seen. It usually occurs in young adults. Currently it is included in the phacomatosis group of disorders. CLINICAL CASE: A 19 year old woman attended the Emergency Department complaining of progressive orthostatic headache for the previous three months. On examination there were striking facial micronodular lesions suggestive of angiofibromas, a hypo-pigmented macula in the inframammary region and a hyperpigmented 'café-au-lait' macula i

MR imaging in infra-, para- and retrosellar mass lesions.

To determine its diagnostic efficacy in infra-, para- and retrosellar mass lesions magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was compared with computed tomography (CT) in 39 cases. Thirty-six lesions were imaged with a Siemens 0.5 T superconducting unit, three with a 1.5 T unit. CT scanning was performed with third generation equipment. There were 28 neoplasms including eight pituitary adenomas with infrasellar extension, four meningiomas, four extensions from regional malignancies, three chordomas, three juvenile angiofibromas, three medial temporal gliomas, and one each of neuroma, epidermoid and meta

Case Report: A Rare Recurrent Vaginal Angiomyofibroblastoma.

Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMFB) is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor traditionally associated with a very low rate of recurrence, typically affecting middle-aged women, with few cases documented in the literature. We report an unusual case of a 19-year-old sexually inactive female who presented with a huge vaginal AMFB. Ultrasound revealed a well-demarcated mass with internal vascularity. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated mostly clear boundaries, but the margin adjacent to the right posterior urethral wall was indistinct. After surgical resection, the tumor recurred twice. This case hig

Tuberous sclerosis complex with multisystem involvement: A case report.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a rare, autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the tuberous sclerosis complex 1 or tuberous sclerosis complex 2 genes, leading to constitutive activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin pathway and abnormal cell growth. Tuberous sclerosis complex is characterized by benign hamartomas affecting multiple organs, most commonly the brain, skin, kidneys, heart, and lungs. Clinical manifestations vary depending on the organs involved and disease severity. We report the case of a Chinese woman in her mid-30s who presented with progressive dyspn

Late-Onset Diagnosis of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Revealed by Renal Angiomyolipoma: A Case Report.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by multisystem hamartomas caused by pathogenic variants in TSC1 or TSC2. It is typically diagnosed in childhood, most often because of neurological or dermatological manifestations. Diagnosis in late adulthood is uncommon and may pose significant diagnostic challenges. We report the case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with lumbar pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple bilateral renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs), more prominent in the right kidney. Further evaluation identified multiple fac

Expressions of Cushing's syndrome in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1.

Cushing's syndrome (CS) resulting from endogenous hypercortisolism can be sporadic or can occur in the context of familial disease because of pituitary or extra-pituitary neuroendocrine tumors. Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is unique among familial endocrine tumor syndromes because hypercortisolism in this context can result from pituitary, adrenal, or thymic neuroendocrine tumors and can therefore reflect either ACTH-dependent or ACTH-independent pathophysiologies. The prominent expressions of MEN1 include primary hyperparathyroidism, tumors of the anterior pituitary, gastroenter

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex: Clinical Spectrum and Epilepsy: A Retrospective Chart Review Study.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant genetic neurocutaneous disorder, with heterogeneous manifestations. We aimed to review the clinical presentation of TSC and its association with epilepsy among Saudi population. This was a retrospective chart review study of 88 patients diagnosed with TSC with or without epilepsy. In 38.6% of patients, symptoms began before 1 year of age. The most frequent initial manifestations of TSC were new onset of seizures (68.2%), skin manifestations (46.6%) and development delay (23.9%). During the evolution of the disease 65.9% had epilepsy, 17

Septal dislocation for endoscopic access of the anterolateral maxillary sinus and infratemporal fossa.

BACKGROUND: Transnasal approaches to the anterolateral maxillary sinus and infratemporal fossa are challenging with traditional endoscopic techniques and instrumentation. Additional access in the anterior and lateral direction can be obtained with modified endoscopic medial maxillectomy (MEMM) or total endoscopic medial maxillectomy (TEMM) or via a transseptal approach. Alternatively, we have used a septal dislocation technique to help access these areas. Access to these areas may be necessary for treatment of inverted papilloma, schwannoma, and juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas. The aim o

External carotid artery blood supply to the orbit.

The utility of angiography and embolisation of selected branches of the external carotid artery is occasionally helpful in the management of recurrent epistaxis, pre-operative devascularisation of tumours such as angiofibromas, and other head and neck conditions. The use of embolisation for recalcitrant post-tonsillectomy bleeding due to the formation of an aneurysm or pseudoaneurysm of branches of the external carotid artery has been described [P. Simoni, J. Bello, B. Kent, Pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery secondary to tonsillectomy treated with selective embolization, Int. J. Pediatr. Ot

Imaging of vascular lesions of the head and neck.

The diagnosis of vascular lesions of the head and neck should be directed by classifying the lesions as tumors or malformations and by determining their flow characteristics. Location of the lesion is key when differentiating between vascular neoplasms. Ultrasonography is an appropriate screening tool; MRI is often used to confirm the diagnosis. Computed tomography can be used for further characterization of the lesion, particularly when there is bony involvement. In many cases, vascular lesions grow to be extensive. In these cases, percutaneous sclerotherapy or embolization therapy can be emp

Malignant and Benign Head and Neck Tumors of the Pediatric Age: A Narrative Review.

Malignant tumors of the head and neck are rare in children, but it is important to know these lesions and identify them early in order to have a good outcome for these patients. Benign lesions of the head and neck are much more frequent and have an excellent prognosis. For this reason, it is necessary to recognize the warning signs and symptoms and understand when to refer the patient to a reference center for the treatment of these pathologies. The clinical presentation of both benign and malignant lesions in children may be similar as usually, both categories have compressive effects. This c
