PURPOSE: To report a new corneal finding in Muckle-Wells syndrome (MWS) and its subsequent treatment.
METHODS: The medical chart of a 45-year-old woman with a history of MWS was reviewed. She presented with progressive bilateral stromal edema and scarring that had been worsening over the past year. A chronic bilateral endogenous Candida albicans endophthalmitis in a heroin addict was treated by vitrectomy, argon laser photocoagulation and endodiathermy. In the left eye with a visual acuity of 6/6 there was a totally asymptomatic retinal tear due to vitreous traction. The cutaneous application of lasers today includes more selective and less damaging devices. Carbon dioxide, neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet, potassium titanyl phosphate, argon, and yellow lasers are most prevalent in treating cutaneous lesions. Specific techniques in skin resurfacing, keloid excision, rhinophyma, actinic cheilitis ablation, and excision of superficial cutaneous tumors are discussed. Proper management of cutaneous vascular lesions is also presented.

We present a case of a bronchogenic pulmonary cyst in a 48-year-old patient. We performed [corrected] mucoclasis using argon laser photocoagulation following resection of mucosa, closure of some drainage bronchus, and covering of the inner surface by the intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst with an [corrected] absorbable vicryl mesh. At [corrected] 4-year [corrected] follow-up, the patient had no signs of recurrence.

Nine patients were treated with indirect ophthalmoscope argon laser photocoagulation for threshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). A total of 16 eyes were treated at an average postconceptional age of 36.31 weeks. All eyes demonstrated regression of threshold ROP. Follow up was between 1 and 14 months postoperatively. Laser photocoagulation for ROP may be an effective alternative in treating high risk levels of ROP.

Barrett's oesophagus is known as one of the most important risk factor of oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Because of the increasing incidence of these latter, many endoscopic methods such as argon plasma coagulation, photodynamic therapy or endoscopic mucosal resection are now in evaluation in order to eradicate Barrett's oesophagus or to treat dysplasia and early cancers arising from this metaplasia. The aim of this paper is to comment these techniques and discuss their usefulness.

Main indications for application of photocoagulation in the prevention of retinal detachment in penetrating eye war injuries were presented. Photocoagulation was performed when intrabulbar foreign body was present, before its extraction and in the cases of traumatic ruptures of sectorial traumatic tractional retinal detachment. Modified photocoagulation by argon laser, with linked spots in two rows was used since it was shown to be clinically the most suitable.

We have performed ab-externo photoablative filtration surgery on 19 patients affected by uncontrolled primary open-angle glaucoma. Prostate cryoablation (PCry) is a well-established minimally invasive therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer. Retinoschisis is a vitreo retinal dystrophy characterized by splitting of the neuroretinal layers. The paper presents two cases of retinoschisis associated with retinal detachment. As a particularity, one patient was diagnosed with von Willebrand disease and the other one, with otomandibular dysostosis (Francois-Haustrade). There are presented therapeutical methods used in this two cases: Laser, Argon photocoagulation, transscleral cryopexia, scleral buckling and also the functional and anatomical results.

The possibility of YAG laser interventions on the posterior capsule of the lens with subsequent argon laser coagulation of the retina in patients with aphakia and artiphakia is studied. The optimal intervention for secondary cataract in patients with artiphakia is circular resection of the posterior capsule. Intraocular lenses prevent such complications as vitreous hernias and allow creating a larger and better shaped opening in the posterior chamber, thus providing a better access for laser coagulation of the retina.
