Socioeconomic status and post-cyclone dengue Vulnerability: The mediating roles of knowledge and risk perception in Southern China.

BACKGROUND: Although numerous studies have investigated the link between tropical cyclones and dengue transmission, this body of research is predominantly ecological. How individual-level factors modify vulnerability to this risk remains understudied. We investigated how socioeconomic status, knowledge, attitudes, practices (KAP), and risk perception modulate post-cyclone vulnerability to inform targeted interventions. METHODS: We conducted a 1:1 matched case-control study in Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Foshan cities between September 14 and October 1, 2024, following the Super Typhoon Yagi on

Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Cost-Related Healthcare Access Barriers in Florida (2012-2024): A Joinpoint Regression and Bayesian Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Economic barriers to healthcare disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities. While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) aimed to reduce these disparities, the COVID-19 pandemic represented an unprecedented external shock. This study aims to quantify state-level trends in cost-related healthcare access barriers in Florida, focusing on intersectional vulnerabilities. METHODS: We conducted an ecological time-series analysis using aggregated state-level data (N = 78 total data points) from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) for Florida adults (2012-2024). The…

Characterizing primary care in breast cancer survivors after completion of cancer therapy.

PURPOSE: Despite the potential for primary care to optimize comorbidity management among breast cancer survivors, engagement with primary care providers (PCPs) remains low. This study comprehensively examined PCP-led care after breast cancer treatment to identify survivors who may benefit from targeted interventions to improve primary care engagement. METHODS: We identified 1,582 posttreatment breast cancer survivors from the U.S. Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey. Weighted multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were used to examine associations of sociodemographic,…

Syndemic mapping of HIV and other STIs in KwaZulu-Natal: a Bayesian spatio-temporal modeling approach using latent constructs.

Syndemics involving Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a major public health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa, and understanding their spatial and temporal dynamics is critical for effective interventions. Using data from two consecutive, population-based cross-sectional surveys conducted in 2014 and 2015 under the HIV Incidence Provincial Surveillance System (HIPSS) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, we applied a Bayesian spatio-temporal framework grounded in latent variable modeling to quantify and map the syndemic burden of HIV and other S
