Solitary plasmacytoma of bone (SPB) is a localized form of plasma cell neoplasm where jaw involvement is rare. Distinguishing SPB from other plasma cell neoplasms is critical for treatment and survival. Here, a case of SPB of mandible in an elderly female is reported. Histopathological diagnosis of plasma cell neoplasm was confirmed immunohistochemically with MUM1 and CD138 positivity and multiple myeloma (MM) was ruled out on performing systemic workup. Prognosis of SPB worsens when it transforms into MM. A systematic review was undertaken with the objective to determine the factors affecting

A male castrated Golden Retriever was presented for evaluation of a large mass over the left shoulder extending to the lower part of the neck that had been present for an extended period of time, but had a recent history of rapid growth. Previous aspirates of the mass were consistent with a lipoma. The mass was surgically excised and was diagnosed as an extraskeletal osteosarcoma based on histopathology. After surgery, the dog was initiated on a chemotherapy protocol with carboplatin and metronomic cyclophosphamide. He became neutropenic, anemic, and thrombocytopenic 14 days after the carbopla

Tagraxofusp is a CD123-targeted therapy comprised of a recombinant human interleukin-3 (IL-3) fused to a truncated diphtheria toxin payload. It is the first approved treatment specifically for patients with blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN). To identify biomarkers of response, bone marrow samples from 12 BPDCN patients who were treated with tagraxofusp in the pivotal phase II trial (NCT02113982) were profiled longitudinally using a gene panel and single-cell RNA sequencing. Residual tumor cells following tagraxofusp expressed lower levels of TXNRD1 that would reduce the effi

Tumorous cancer has been a widely known and well-studied medical phenomenon; however, rare diseases like Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN) have received less attention, leading to delayed diagnosis. Despite the availability of advanced technology in diagnostic tools that can boost the procedure, the morphological assessment of bone marrow trephine (BMT) images remains critical to confirm and differentiate MPN subtypes. This paper reports a histopathological imagery dataset that was created to focus on the most common MPN from the Philadelphia Chromosome (Ph)-negative type, namely Essential Thr

We report the case of a 69-year-old male with peripheral blood findings of persistent anemia, mild absolute monocytosis with mild dysgranulopoiesis, rare circulating blasts, and mild thrombocytopenia. Bone marrow biopsy revealed hypercellular bone marrow (60%) with 3.4% blasts and mild dysgranulopoiesis, morphologically characteristic of myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia-1 (CMML-1). Chromosome analysis revealed an abnormal karyotype with an apparent monosomy 7 and the presence of one marker chromosome. FISH analysis of metaphases from destained G-band

Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a plasma cell neoplasm without bone marrow involvement. EMPs are rare in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We report two cases of primary EMP, one in the transverse colon and the other in the stomach. In the first case, a mass on the transverse colon was found on colonoscopy. The patient underwent left hemicolectomy and has been followed-up for 3 years without recurrence postoperatively. The latter case had several masses in the stomach. The patient underwent bypass surgery and has received supportive care for 1 month. Histopathologic specimens of b

Hepatosplenic T cell lymphoma is defined as an extranodal and systemic neoplasm derived from cytotoxic T cells. This report describes a postmortem case of T cell lymphoma that showed histological features of hepatosplenic T cell lymphoma but did not express cytotoxic molecules. The patient was a 57 year old man who presented with severe icterus and hepatosplenomegaly, followed by an aggressive clinical course. The liver and spleen were enlarged, weighing 2000 g and 360 g, respectively. Histologically, the liver, spleen, and bone marrow were entirely affected by lymphoma, comprising pleomorphic

We report a case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) presenting as severe jaundice. The patient, a 59-year-old man, was found to have abnormal liver function, including an elevated total bilirubin level (13.5 mg/dl) with hepatosplenomegaly, but no detectable lymphadenopathy. A liver biopsy and bone marrow examination revealed a lymphoid neoplasm. Pathologic features included invasion of an abnormal clone into the sinusoidal region of the liver, diffuse bone marrow involvement (41.6% of all nucleated cells) and splenomegaly. Small numbers of malignant cells were also detected in the periphera

BACKGROUND: The diagnostic complexities that arise in radiographic distinction between ectopic pleural thymoma and other thoracic neoplasms are substantial, with instances of co-occurring T-cell lymphocytosis and osseous metastasis being exceedingly rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 51-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with dyspnea and chest pain. Upon imaging examination, she was found to have diffuse and nodular pleural thickening on the left side, collapse of the left lung and a compression in the second thoracic vertebrae. All lesions showed significant 18F-FDG uptake on 18F-FDG PET/CT

BACKGROUND: Myeloid/Lymphoid Neoplasms (MLN) with eosinophilia and PDGFRB rearrangements are rare but distinct hematologic malignancies driven by the constitutive activation of the PDGFRB tyrosine kinase through gene fusions. These neoplasms are sensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) such as imatinib, which often leads to rapid and durable molecular remissions. However, diagnostic challenges frequently arise from cryptic rearrangements, necessitating comprehensive molecular approaches.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old male patient initially presented with pancytopenia and a splenic in

Historically, the increased incidence of myeloid neoplasms observed in individuals with breast and ovarian cancer has been attributed exclusively to prior exposure to cancer-directed therapies. However, as the association between deleterious germline variants and the development of hematopoietic malignancies (HMs) becomes better established, we propose the increased incidence of myeloid neoplasms in those with breast and ovarian cancer may be at least partially related to underlying germline cancer predisposition alleles. Deleterious germline variants in BRCA1/2, ATM, CHEK2, PALB2, and other r

Pathomorphological examination of trephine biopsies of the bone marrow (BM) represents a standard method for the diagnosis and staging of hematologic neoplasms and other disorders involving the BM. The increasing knowledge about the genetic basis and biology of hematologic neoplasms, as well as the recently proposed WHO classification system, provide the framework for an accurate diagnosis. Although conventional morphology remains the gold standard for paraffin-embedded BM trephines, immunohistochemical stainings have become an integral part of the diagnostic workup. Solitary plasmacytoma (SP) is an uncommon form of plasma cell neoplasm occurring intraosseously or in soft tissue and presents as a single mass of monoclonal plasma cells. SP in the maxillary sinus is rare and can be misdiagnosed as other maxillary sinus tumors. The essential examinations in patients with the initial diagnosis of plasmacytoma are bone marrow biopsy, serum and urine electrophoresis, and kappa/lambda ratio (κ:λ ratio) to rule out multiple myeloma (MM). Herein, a rare case of SP in the maxillary sinus treated by surgery and localized radiation is reported. At the 10-year follow-u

Hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma is an uncommon neoplasm characterized by a lymphoid infiltrate within the sinusoids of the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, without significant nodal involvement. The majority of cases express the gammadelta T-cell receptor and are associated with an isochromosome 7q cytogenetic abnormality. Recently, a small number of cases have been reported that express the alphabeta T-cell receptor. Here, we report our findings of a case of an S100-positive hepatosplenic alphabeta T-cell lymphoma in a 20-year-old woman who presented with pancytopenia and hepatosplenomegaly. The
