Citric acid conditioning of dentine has been proposed as an efficacious treatment for promoting re-attachment after periodontal surgery. Liver disease may cause a variety of clinical signs, including depression, anorexia, weakness, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, jaundice, ascites and CNS signs. A hereditary anomaly of neutrophil granulation in purebred Birman cats was described with respect to genetic, electron microscopic, histochemical, and functional characters. The trait was inherited in an autosomal recessive manner and was prevalent in the population studied. Affected cats had fine eosinophilic granules in the cytoplasm of neutrophils. CO2 response curves were measured in six anesthetized cats under open-loop conditions in both hyperoxia and hypoxia. Markedly nonlinear characteristics were observed with CO2 response slopes below the normal operating level almost three times that above the normal operating level. In anesthetized cats, the effect of heating stress on pulmonary gas exchange was studied in spontaneous breathing and in artificial ventilation. A moderate overheating of the animals by means of placing them into a heat chamber with air temperature 50 degrees C caused no essential disturbance of the gas exchange. In grave heating stress (the body temperature over 39.4 +/- +/- 0.17 degrees C), a considerable decrease occurred in efficiency of the gas exchange due to an increase in the lung ventilation and a decrease in the pulmonary blood flow.

Eight cats on six poultry farms, four of which had a history of recent turkey pasteurellosis were examined for Pasteurella multocida infection. Nine strains were recovered and serotyped and of these five were tested for virulence in chickens and mice. By comparison with a strain from a field outbreak in turkeys three cat strains were considered capable of causing poultry disease. These findings are discussed epidemiologically.

The longevity and productivity of Taenia taeniaeformis were studied in experimentally infected cats. Nineteen of 20 cats became infected after they were given 8 to 12 strobilocerci. In 8 cats, mean prepatent period was 47.1 days +/- 5.9 SEM (34 to 80 days). Patent periods in the infected cats were 7 to 34 months. Migration and development of Paragonimus kellicotti were studied in cats killed between 1 and 265 days after feeding 15--20 metacercariae from the hearts of naturally infected crayfish. Metacercariae excysted in the intestine and appeared in the peritoneal cavity within 24 hr.
