Osterix is a novel zinc finger-containing transcription factor that is essential for osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. We hypothesized that osterix might have a role in osteosarcoma tumor growth and metastasis. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) causes various tumors, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). There have been no reports as to whether the carcinogenicity of EBV is restricted to the nasopharynx or extends into the mesopharynx and hypopharynx. We attempted to ascertain the relation between EBV and mesopharyngeal (MPC) and hypopharyngeal carcinomas (HPC). We have shown recently that SLIT2 has tumor suppressor activity and that it is epigenetically silenced in >40% of lung and breast tumors. In this study, we have analyzed the methylation status of SLIT2 in primary colorectal cancers and matching normal colorectal mucosa.
